Snow BusinessSun, snow and skis are the perfect mix for a honeymoon if you’re the adventurous type. Deciding where to go is the biggest dilemma with Europe and North America boasting some of the top ski resorts in the world. The general rule of thumb is the earlier you go, the better the snow with Christmas and New Year being the peak skiing season and March ideal for the higher resorts.

Whistler, British Columbia, Canada

On the Piste: Just north of Vancouver, Whistler is a resort that appeals to the international set and its enviable reputation has been further bolstered by
being recently named as the host to the 2010 Winter Olympics. With the imposing face of Whistler
Mountain looming ahead, the town also has the
longest ski run at an impressive seven miles.

Après ski: Once you have had your fill of ski jumps for the day, head for Garibaldi Provincial Park, a veritable oasis of lush alpine meadows teeming with wildlife. There are many peaks in the park including Price Mountain, Glacier Pikes and Mount Garibaldi, so it is a must for hikers and lovers of the great outdoors.

Retire to: The Westin Resort and Spa is a fabulous respite from the chilly weather with the Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains practically on your doorstep. The Avello Spa is famed as one of the best in Canada and is the perfect spot to ease your aching muscles after a hard day on the slopes. www.westinwhistler.com

Grindelwald, Switzerland

On the Piste: For pure Swiss idyll, Grindelwald, tucked into the heart of the Bernese Oberland is a historic and cosmopolitan resort. A large, year round destination, ski runs are impressive here, spreading around the soaring peaks of the Wetterhorn and Eiger Mountains on one side and gentler, wooded slopes on the other. For more information visit www.grindelwald.com

Après ski: Enjoy the best view of the Alps from the Jungfrau railway for a memorable high altitude excursion, where the Jungfraujoch station is the highest railroad station in the world. The expanse of rock and ice from this level is simply blinding so remember to pack your sunglasses. When you're
ready for a change of pace, enjoy a thrilling dog sled ride on the descent down.

Retire to: A century old chalet, Hotel Gletschergarten has been entirely updated making it as comfortable as when it first opened in 1899. All rooms have a balcony giving views of emerald green hills or of the glaciers but ask for a corner room where views are at their best. From the leaded glass windows to the ceramic stove, the heirloom furniture gives a homely and welcoming feel to the hotel that is hard to beat. www.hotel-gletschergarten.ch

Sauze D'Oulx, Italy

On the Piste: Located in the imaginatively named Via Lattea (Milky Way) region of Italy, Sauze D'Oulx is a beautiful little village with a great party atmosphere at night. This is one of the best ski circuits in Europe and is a proud host of the 2006 Winter Olympics. The area has a better than average sunshine record and tree lined slopes, you can also ski right over the border into Mongenevre in France as it has 400km of runs. For more information visit www.montagnedoc.it

Apres Ski: If there's a chance that you might tire of the slopes, the evening scene in Sauze will keep you entertained into the small hours. The old part of the town dates from the 15th century with charming cobbled streets and there is a great mix of pubs and restaurants in the area.

Retire to: The Il Capricorno hotel is well situated in the resort as the slopes are literally on your doorstep. The hotel has a real rustic charm as the furniture was hand crafted by one of the Italian owners and his wife who is a Michelin starred gourmet chef. Boasting a wine cellar and ensuite rooms, Il Capricorno is a cosy retreat for your time in Sauze. www.ilcapricorno.com

Meribel, France
On the Piste: Situated in the beautiful Rhone Alps region of France, Meribel is positively enchanting with dinky chalets and snow scenes straight off a postcard. For experienced skiers the Combe Vallon piste on Mount Vallon is the highest point in the valley and the challenging run is certainly worthwhile for the breathtaking views of the valley. For speed fanatics, the Boarder Cross at the Platières snow park is an exhilarating and bumpy ride. For more information visit www.franceguide.com

Après ski: Try the local liqueur Genépi that is made from grape brandy, sugar and a green plant that only grows at high altitudes. It packs a punch and you will either love it or loathe it. For an unforgettable experience indulge in a balloon flight and glide over
the spectacular peaks in the valley, while sipping a glass of chilled champagne.

Retire to: Situated above the resort centre, The Hotel Les Arolles is a beautiful family run hotel with a warm, cosy atmosphere that you will find hard to leave.
Enjoy a steaming mug of hot chocolate in front of the log fire or take in a few laps
of the indoor heated pool. With 60 rooms, be sure to book a south or east facing room, to enjoy the best views of the piste. www.arolles.com
