A Groom's Guide to Buying Lingerie for your Bride
Want to raise the temperature on your wedding night or honeymoon? How about surprising your new wife with some lovely lingerie. Here's a fool-proof guide to buying lingerie for that she'll love and you'll get to enjoy too.
Sizing
You NEED to get this right! We suggest you check out what she's currently wearing. If you live together, check out her lingerie drawer or any washing she has hanging out. If you don't live together, check next time you're smooching! Check the label on her bra and knickers!
Here's what you're looking for:
Bras: Bra sizes have a number and one or two letters, for example, 32B or 34DD. Only bras and some corsets come in these sizes.
Knickers and Thongs: These will either be XS, S, M, L, XL or 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 etc. You can also find these sizes by looking in dresses, trousers and some jeans.
In general you can follow these rules from our size guide:
Styles
This is the easy part – presumably you've seen your lady in underwear already? (If not then good luck – we hope buying her lingerie does the trick!). So what does she normally wear? As you're buying a gift for your honeymoon you may want to choose something that's a little sexier than usual.
Bras
You're pretty safe with bras as long as you get the size right. If you want to feel & see what's underneath the bra – go for an unpadded bra or a sheer bra. If your lady needs a bit of help building a cleavage try a padded bra – gel bras and push-up bras are the way to go. Half cup bras and quarter cup bras say what they do on the tin - they're cut lower than the average bra – a quarter cup is much cheekier than a half-cup and leaves little to the imagination! And finally balcony bras or balconette bras lift and separate – like her boobs have their own little mini balconies!
Knickers
Briefs are your average knicker. Thongs and g-strings are much smaller – neither cover the bottom cheeks, g-strings are a bit more like cheese wire!
Boyshorts are the ones that look more like boxer shorts, but are generally figure hugging and low-slung. For a sexy in-between style go for a Brazilian Brief – the leg is cut diagonally across the bum cheek for a more flirty look.
Hosiery
Stockings and hold-ups add an extra something to a lingerie set. Stockings need suspenders (or a suspender brief or basque) – if your chosen lingerie set doesn't have a suspender, go for hold-ups. They come in small medium and large / X large – don't be afraid to buy large if your lady is tall but slim – she'll need the length.
Still stuck?
If you're still stuck for choice, try a chemise or camisole. They're generally quite loose so size is less of an issue. Basques and corsets also generally come in dress size too, which is easier to find. Otherwise, get her to try the bra size calculator!
