A Floating Paradise No longer the preserve of the old, luxury cruises are becoming increasingly popular with honeymooners of all ages, enticed by high standards of luxury and service, the chance to visit numerous exotic destinations all during one holiday and the reassurance of an all-inclusive price. WJ takes to the high seas and experiences the trip of a lifetime. From the moment we landed at Miami International Airport and were ferried by taxi to the quayside at Fort Lauderdale, to touchdown back at Heathrow airport, Silversea Cruises made sure we were treated like royalty. The award-winning company prides itself on its personalised service and providing its guests with much, much more than a simple cruise. Our luxurious home-from-home for an eight-day trip around some of the Caribbean's most beautiful islands was the stunning Silver Shadow, a floating seven-deck paradise that would take us from Miami to Bridgetown, Barbados, via stops including Antigua, St Lucia and Grenada. Greeted by Champagne on check-in and our very own butler to whisk luggage straight to our suite, boarding the Silver Shadow was easier than getting on a bus. Fresh fruit and flowers greeted us in our room (standard practice on Silversea cruises) and with unpacking taken care of by our butler, there was nothing else to do, but start enjoying the holiday. Every one of the 192 suites on the Silver Shadow offers a personal view of sea and sky - 80% are complemented with furnished teak verandas - the perfect venue for breakfast and watching your next port approach closer into view. With 382 other travellers, you're never short of company, but on a ship this size, there are plenty of spaces to be alone and do your own thing. An open-seating policy of dining when, where, and with whom you desire ensures you can be as private or congenial as you desire - perfect for a romantic honeymoon. Silversea features a variety of dining options including, The Restaurant (the main dining room), Le Champagne, La Terrazza (indoor/outdoor café), a Poolside Grille, plus 24-hour in-suite dining. The food in all was truly amazing. Aboard the Silver Shadow, the entertainment choices were dazzling. From theatre shows to classical music concerts in The Athenian show lounge; intimate piano recitals, jazz and cabaret in The Bar; to local performers - every taste was catered for. And every evening, The Bar and The Panorama Lounge offered dancing to a range of live music from ballroom and dinner dancing to rock 'n' roll favourites and club mixes. The Humidor offered the perfect venue to enjoy a selection of cigars, exceptional cognacs, fine Armagnac, exquisite grappa, rare vintage ports and more. Moonlight Movies on deck are also offered on select evenings and if you fancy a flutter, The Casino with its cosy adjacent bar and try your luck at Blackjack, roulette and poker.
