Favourite Wedding Wine Tipples Wine expert Myra Greer reviews her favourite tipples for wedding receptions
CHAMPAGNE Champagne is the celebratory wine. It is sexy, exciting, vivacious, luxurious. It sets the mood, relaxes the mind and soon gets the chat and fun going. Magnums (equivalent to two 75cl bottles which should serve 10 to 12 people) Jeroboams (four bottles) or Rehoboams (6 bottles) will add a real wow factor and you’ll have big labels which you can enlarge and frame to add pazz-azz to your new home.
The charming Perrier Jouët’s Belle Epoque with its enamelled arabesque of anemones decorating the bottles must surely be the ultimate choice for weddings. Truly heavenly is the Belle Epoque Rosé. But they are frightfully expensive. As are other great Champagnes such as the singular exclusive Salon, legendary king Krug, ab fab Bolly, Taittinger’s racy Blanc de Blanc Comtes de Champagne or their luscious Rosé; delightful Dom Pérignon or Ruinart’s aptly named vintage Elégance.
Best served with: Smoked salmon, caviar, oysters, scallops, prawns, shrimps are perfectly complimented by the sophistication and high acidity of Champagne. For a sweeter alternative try chocolate dipped strawberries.
