1. Theme your decorations 
The shops are filled with inexpensive novelty Christmas decorations at this time of year, which provide the ideal decorations for winter themed wedding receptions so take full advantage. White, gold, silver, purple and red themes are always popular with designs incorporating the cool, classic and contemporary. Snow globes are a good way to decorate the church and if you are feeling adventurous you could even make your own, using glass bowls and choosing ornaments for the inside.

 2. Serve seasonal drinks
Heart warming drinks for the reception will be popular, especially if you are lucky enough to get snow. If you need to cut costs, serve a themed signature drink instead of a full bar. Spiked egg nog, hot chocolate with rum or hot buttered rum are all seasonal classics and will go down a storm with guests.
3. Light the way
With a winter wedding, lighting goes a long way and a simple but effective method is to use lots and lots of candles to shed light on the occasion and create a focal point in the décor. For a twist on the traditional tea lights, make paper bag luminaries with a snowflake pattern cut into them. They are simple to make but can also be bought ready made if DIY just isn't your thing
 4. Mirror magic
If you are using long tables at the reception a rectangular mirror with votives placed on it and then sprinkled with fake snow or sparkling gems is a simple yet striking centrepiece. Try different ideas to dress up the edges from greenery to Christmas decorations.

5. Berry nice
For table centrepieces, use tree toppers like angels and stars, surrounded by scented pinecones and for the finishing touch have a string lights carefully twisted through greenery. Festive wreaths with winter berries can be made or bought and look great on the table, especially if you place large church candles inside.
