The Wedding Journal Show, Dublin the busiest EVER!

Thousands of couples flock to the Citywest in Dublin to attend Ireland’s largest wedding show…

As soon as the doors opened on Friday afternoon for The Wedding Journal Show at the Citywest in Dublin we knew it was going to be an unforgettable show.

The exhibition hall looked amazing with the 300+ exhibitors pulling out all the stops to make their stands look fantastic, pre-bookings for ticket sales were up and thanks to the promotions running on radio, TV and print press, it seemed that everyone knew that Ireland's biggest bridal show was coming to town.

Diamond in the Rough Competition

Each day at The Wedding Journal Show brought something new and exciting. On Saturday we had the Diamond in the Rough competition live on the main stage hosted by Aidan and Claire from 98FM. The prize was a stunning €4,000 ring from Abana Jewellers and nine couples had to dig in the dirt to find a ring box, one of which contained a beautiful diamond solitaire.

The winners were Deirdre Noyles and Paul Luz who later went on to reveal that Deirdre's original engagement ring had been lost and so the prize ensured she was able to choose another dream engagement ring.

Win a €25,000 Wedding

There were more tears of happiness on the Sunday when the six finalists of the Win a €25,000 Wedding were called onto the stage by

Ireland Am presenter Sinead Desmond to discover who would walk away with the incredible prize package that included a wedding reception from Ballymagarvey Village, a luxury honeymoon with Sunway Holidays and Cyprus Tourism, wedding dress and Two Birds bridesmaids dresses from Frilly Frocks, room dressing by Frog Prince, wedding rings from The Wedding Ring Shop and wedding photography by Laura Faherty.

You could feel the tension in the air as the couples opened their gold envelopes to see which one had drawn the winning envelope.

Laura Ward and Jonathan Faulkner from Maynooth were the winners and the whole hall erupted with applause as Laura and Jonathan celebrated their win on stage with a few tears and jumps of joy – even the perfectly composed presenter Sinead Desmond was spotted wiping away the tears! Let's just say it was a very emotional moment with a very deserving winning couple.

Other highlights

Other highlights of the weekend were the Irish Independent Style Stage, hosted by Sinead Desmond and featuring bridal make-overs by Davey Davey & Ken Boylan, air-brush make-up demonstrations by Vanity & Mascara, wedding outfits for the wedding party by Arnotts and the ultimate bridesmaids dress from Twobird Bridemaids.

There was never a dull moment in the hall with the main stage coming alive three times daily with the amazing Calvin Klein Catwalk Show featuring dresses by De Stafford Bridal, Little White Dress, The Town Bride, Tamen Michael, Truly Bridal, Frilly Frocks, Benjamin Roberts and Tia, Ciara Bridal, Eden Manor Bridal and Dress Code. Groomswear from Moss Bross and Black Tie looked suave on the gorgeous male dancers and bridesmaids and mother of the bride outfits from Arnotts, Vanity Fair and Dress Code added a touch of colour to the show.

Show organiser Wynn Penton had a tough job deciding who should win the coveted Best Stand Award as all exhibitors had made a huge effort to design and decorate their stands. In the end it was decided that De Stafford Bridal's angelic stand, complete with feathered angel wings was the deserving winner, so a huge congratulations to the team there.

Everyone appeared to be in a celebratory mood and the Champagne Bar was packed with bride-to-be and their fiancées, friends and family toasting their forthcoming wedding in style.

With exhibitors offering special show discounts, competitions, and exclusive show packages, everyone was a winner and no one left empty handed thanks to the exhibitors who provided tasty samples, gifts and freebies for visitors to their stand.
