Alterative transport ideas for the groom who likes to move with the times...

How you get yourself and your groomsmen to the church is a matter of personal choice and many grooms are using this freedom as an excuse to turn their transport into a real talking point. Lads, it's time to wave goodbye to the traditional limo and take a spin in something a lot more fun!

Super sized suggestions Why opt for a standard car when you can have a supersized version of it? Limousines have long been associated with weddings and are a great option if you have a large wedding party.

How about literally stopping traffic in an eight-wheel stretch Hummer. This elongated beast of the road has to be the ultimate boys about town mobile, just steer clear of routes with roundabouts! Big, black and rather brash, the hummer makes a great car to transport your groomsmen to the wedding.

For something cuter and less macho, the limo Mini has bags of character or you could go retro with a stretch VW Beetle.

Take to the skies Make a super star arrival as newly weds in your own private helicopter. Not rich enough to own one? Never worry, helicopters and private planes are available for hire with many companies offering special services for weddings including limousine transfers and champagne. Top tip: Before taking to the air, check that your end location (usually the reception venue) can facilitate a chopper on its grounds. Many 5-five star properties have their own helicopter pads including Harveys Point, Cabra Castle, K Club, Adare Manor...

If a helicopter is just too Flash Harry for your liking then hire a hot air balloon. While the traditional wicker basket balloon is more stable and comfortable than you may imagine, do bear in mind that balloons are weather sensitive. Balloon rides tend to take place at either end of the day - sunrise or a few hours before sunset - when the winds tend to be calmer. April to September are the best months to travel as outside these times the weather is rarely good enough to fly.

Weird & wonderful If you fancy yourself as a bit of a movie star then why not step straight into the set of your favourite film on the Big Day. Star Car Hire have an amazing selection of replica TV and film cars for hire including Clint Eastwood's Pink Cadillac, the A-team van, Dukes of Hazard ‘General Lee' or a cool James Bond style Aston Martin.

If you intend on making jaws drop as you make your entrance then make like a football star and arrive in a flashy sports car. If you don't own a Ferrari, Aston Martin or the likes, they are available for hire from specialist car hire companies and will add a serious touch of style to your day.

Or how about swapping four wheels for two? If you're a biker at heart don't' let your penguin suit put you off straddling your favourite machine. Having the groom and his party arrive on grumbling Harley Davidson's would make quite a talking point.
