Rugby ace Jamie Heaslip got engaged to former model Sheena O’Buachalla
Irish rugby star Jamie Heaslip is set to tie the knot after proposing to long-time girlfriend Sheena O’Buachalla over the Christmas holidays.
Jamie, who is one of the contenders for the vacant captaincy of the Irish rugby team, began dating former model Sheena in 2010. Dublin native Sheena is a Marketing Manager at Leinster Rugby and the daughter of millionaires Oisin and Sharon O’Buachalla – key players in the car industry.
The rugby player who is notoriously private about his personal life has declined to comment when approached by media this week, however the Sun the following from a source close to the couple:
They are absolutely delighted. They have been going out now for a good few years so it was on the cards. They’re a great couple.”
Jamie previously told the Irish Independent of his desire to stay out of the spotlight. He said:
It’s a conscious decision I made.
I am fine about my rugby stuff being talked about but I like to keep my private life exactly that — private.
Mainly because the people in it didn’t ask to be in the public eye. Family and friends and all that I keep separate.”
It is not known when the couple will tie the knot.
Jamie and Sheena join a number of high profile Irish couples to get engaged or marry in the past few weeks during the festive season. Kerry footballer Paul Galvin and radio presenter Louise Duffy married on New Year’s Eve, Dublin GAA captain Stephen Cluxton and Joanne O’Connor also said ‘I do’, and TV presenter Amanda Byram got engaged to partner Julian Okines.
