Met Gala 2017: Bridal Style Inspiration
Wedding Worthy Style at ‘The Oscars of Fashion’…
The Annual Met Gala Ball took place on Monday night in New York, bringing together the biggest names in film, art and fashion. Nicknamed the ‘Oscar’s of Fashion’, the opening party for the Metropolitan Museum’s fashion exhibition certainly didn’t disappoint in the glamour stakes.
The theme of the ball was ‘wearable art’ or ‘avant-garde’, paying homage to eccentric designer Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons. There certainly were some unique choices of gowns, just as wild as we would have imaged for an avant-garde theme, however equally beautiful with many wedding worthy styles. With hues of whites, silvers and metallic’s proving popular colours on the night, we have put together a few of our favourite looks of the evening that you could transfer into your bridal style or give you some inspiration for your wedding day…
Kate Hudson channeled a sleek minimalist look, with an off-the-shoulder white gown by Stella McCartney and a trendy top knot bun. This minimal trend also featured heavily on the catwalks at Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, with designers such as Atelier Pronovias featuring similar styles. This polished look is perfect for a classic bride who wants to create a timelessly elegant look for her wedding.
Are you a fashion-forward and modern bride-to-be? Take inspiration from Hailey Baldwin’s striking two-piece ensemble by Carolina Herrera. Dare to be different and don a two piece on your wedding day- this look has been hot on the bridal catwalks the past few years with many designers creating simplistic tops paired with large ethereal tulle skirts.
One of our favourite wedding-worthy looks from the evening was this gorgeous figure hugging Vivienne Westwood design, worn by Kim Kardashian-West. This simplistic look is reminiscent of a summer bohemian wedding.
If you are a quirky bride who loves all thing vintage, then you are sure to love this 1950’s inspired red floral and gold ball gown. Ticking two of the hottest bridal trends for 2018 (metallic & florals!) this figure flattering Oscar de la Renta gown worn by Miranda Kerr would be a daring and unique choice.
If you are a bride who loves all things bling, then this beaded H&M gown worn by Stella Maxwell would be right up your street. This dazzling gown with plunging neckline and exposed back has the right mixture of elegance and sexiness, perfect for a modern daring bride. Designers similar to this style would be Israeli designers Berta Bridal and Galia Lahav.
Sticking to fashion’s key trend of Monochrome, Lily James Wowed in this gorgeous black and white gown by Burberry. The strapless gown with a dramatic black bow to the rear would make a striking modern bridal look.
If like Adwoa Aboah, you want to wear something out-of-the-ordinary then this hybrid of tuxedo and dress by Conner Ives Design can give you serious bridal inspiration. She decided to add a pop of colour in the choice of shoe with a vibrant fuchsia stiletto. Why not take inspiration from this and don a pair of royal blue heels for your big day- in keeping with the tradition of wearing ‘something blue’.
Our final wedding worthy look is surprisingly high-street. With many prospective couples looking ways to save money for their wedding, opting for high street bridal ranges could be the perfect opportunity. With several big name retailers now launching bridal collections, this Topshop gown worn by Behati Prinslo could easily pass as a wedding dress. Worn by Behati with vintage glam curls, this effortless look is a favourite with us.
