Real Irish Wedding: Sophia Forde & Anthony O’Toole
~ Real Life Wedding
Real Irish Wedding: 10th September 2012, Bodega Stratvs, Lanzarote
During an unforgettable trip to New York in 2010, whilst ice skating in Central Park Anthony spotted a willow tree with the most amazing back drop of the city. He told Sophia he wanted to take a picture, but instead, he took out an engagement ring and got down on his knee (ice skates and all) and popped the question!
Ceremony & reception venue
“The minute we saw Bodega Stratvs we knew we had to have our wedding there as it was so different to any other wedding venue we had seen,” Sophia explains. “It offered different areas for each part of our wedding from the ceremony to the dinner and then the dancing.”
“As we had decided to marry abroad and had no real idea about where to start, we knew the only way to ensure it would all come together was to use a planner” says Sophia. “Weddings to Envy did it all for us. Apart from choosing the colour palette, Sylvia, owner of Weddings to Envy dealt with all the details and guided us on choices. We wanted our theme to be romantic and laid back and every element provided by Weddings to Envy ensured our day was everything and more we could have ever hoped for.”
There were loads of details that were kept as a surprise from the couple until the big day. The pink and white popcorn in small striped muffin cases used as confetti; the small linen embroidered hankies from Italy and the late night barbeque on the terrace. “This all just made the day that much more special and exciting for us both,” says Sophia.
Sophia travelled with her mum and sisters to New York in search of her perfect wedding dress. “We visited RK bridal where, after trying five dresses on, the assistant asked me to try a fishtail gown called Jasmine. From the moment I put it on I felt like a bride and I knew this was the dress for me.”
With the weather being so hot, lighter suits were the only way to go so groom Anthony and his grooms men wore Remus Ultimo suits with skinny ties for the laid back look.
Sophia’s bridal bouquet included roses, eucalyptus and lisiathums. “All flowers Weddings to Envy used were within the grounds and gardens of the bodega so that the wedding felt in place,” Sophia reveals. “They also used a lot of synthetic flowers for decoration because of the heat and this helped save money too, as all fresh flowers must be imported to the island so can be expensive.”
“I will never forget walking up the isle to meet my future husband,” recalls Sophia. “I had the biggest smile on my face and felt like the luckiest girl in the world. Whilst saying our vows butterflies were flying all around us it was the happiest day shared with our nearest and dearest.
Enjoy every minute of it and try not to get too stressed out about the day. Everything will come together!
