The Donegal couple’s eyes met across Paddy’s bar, Glenties on 29th August 2009. “We had an immediate spark,” Yvonne beings, “we continued to see each other just at weekends at first as Colin worked in Dublin and I worked in Donegal. We took it in turns travelling to see one another until February 2013 when Colin got a job in Letterkenny; we were delighted.”
“Colin proposed on the beautiful boardwalk beach on the island of St. Maarten in the Caribbean in May 2013,” Yvonne says. “He had picked a lovely love heart shaped, canary yellow diamond ring. It was a beautiful and emotional moment that I’ll never forget.”
The couple got married on Valentine’s Day and went for a love heart theme with lots of red used in the venue décor, heart cupcakes served, and love heart sweet favours.
Yvonne’s stylish wedding dress was from Sarah Foy Couture, Clontarf, Dublin. “Having a keen eye for fashion I wanted my dress to reflect my individuality and be something very unique,” Yvonne explains. “After visiting numerous bridal shops throughout the country I could not find what I was looking for. I brought all of my design ideas to the wonderful Sarah Foy, and she was able to magically bring them together. My dress was pearl, lace and flower inspired and I loved wearing it on my big day. My shoes were Sophia Webster. I chose a butterfly design in a mint green colour.”
“Colin wanted something a bit different for the boys. So he picked light blue suits for the men, complete with a white polka dot shirt, and blue floral ties and blue braces, he wore brown Hugo Boss shoes,” Yvonne says.
The bridesmaid dresses were by Dessy from the Lela Rose Collection with shoes by Jenny Packham. “I wanted something girly and quirky so I chose four pastel shades, one for each bridesmaid: mint, yellow, pink and blue,” Yvonne says.
“My flowers were pink, cream and yellow bouquets,” Yvonne says, “I went for pastel shades to match the bridesmaids’ dresses. In the chapel we had a lovely arch dressed with flowers which I loved.”
The four-tier wedding cake was created by Adriana from Cake Love Boutique.
Mother of the bride and groom
Mother of the bride Bernie wore a lovely mauve outfit from McElhinneys, Ballybofey. Margaret, Mother of the groom wore a beautiful turquoise outfit, also from McElhinneys.
Yvonne: “It was so amazing to see all of our planning come together perfectly on our big day. The fact that we were able to share this wonderful occasion with so many family members and good friends made it all the more special. It was brilliant to see everyone thoroughly enjoying the day just as much as we were.”
