HOW THEY MET
‘We were set up by a mutual friend on a blind date back in March 2016. We had cocktails in Bert’s Jazz bar, Belfast and have never looked back!’
Ryan proposed to Catherine on a city break stay in York before Christmas. When wandering the streets of the city, they came across York Minster – a masterpiece in stained glass and stone.
Ryan trekked Catherine to the very top of the Cathedral to ‘admire the view of the city.’ Instead, at the top Ryan got down on one knee and proposed.
After a beautiful ceremony at West Presbyterian Church, Bangor, it was time to party.
Ryan and Catherine picked Riddel Hall, Queens University for their wedding reception. Where contemporary meets tradition – set amongst beautifully landscaped grounds, this unique venue provides a picturesque country setting right in the heart of the city.
Originally an external courtyard, the Isdell at Riddel Hall is enclosed by a stunning glass roof canopy. Retaining many original features of the exterior, its blend of old and new makes it an ideal reception venue for modern and traditional weddings alike. Catherine and Ryan kept everything minimal and chic, the original red-brick added style and drama to the room.
Balloons with ‘Mr & Mrs’ printed on them separated the top table to the room, with crisp, clean linens and candelabras decorating each table.
Catherine asked Floral Design in Bangor to provide her bouquet and flowers for her special day. She wanted cool fresh tones, picking white roses, eucalyptus and sweet pea.
For added detail, Catherine and Ryan used Printed Polaroid pictures of all the guests for their table plan. Catherine’s sister offered a helping hand by individually writing out place cards, testing out her calligraphy skills.
WHAT THE BRIDE WORE & THE REST…
Catherine found her dream wedding dress at the bridal boutique Perfect Day, in Lurgan. Going for a traditional look, Catherine picked a classic v-neck ball grown with lace detail, a matching veil and pearl drop earrings.
Her bridesmaids wore jasmine blue sequin dresses, with matching v-necklines and floaty layered tiered skirts, from Sistaglam.
Catherine also had a subtle outfit change, for their first dance Catherine opted for a sexy, one-shouldered tiered dress, something she could move a little easier in. Having trained in London as a professional dancer, all eyes would have been on Catherine on the dance floor, so she had to look spectacular.
EATING & DRINKING
‘We liked the option of light summer flavours and wine pairings that were offered.’
Starter – Shredded Smoked Duck Salad with Red Wine Poached Pear
Main – Chicken Cordon Bleu, stuffed with Irish Whiskey Cheddar, wrapped in Smoked Streaky Bacon, with a Porcini Mushroom and Tarragon Sauce
Dessert – Trio of Desserts – Dark Chocolate Roulade with Orange and Quince Compote; Lemon and Lime Meringue; White Chocolate and Blueberry Cheesecake.
‘Why have one dessert when you can have three’
Heather Eves designed, baked and decorated Catherine and Ryan’s three tier cake. Keeping with the theme of light flavours, one tier was white chocolate, one red velvet, and another coconut.
CAPTURING THE DAY
Catherine and Ryan shot with The Three Bears before their wedding for a couples shoot, figuring out what shots work best for them, and as an ice breaker before the big day. ‘We loved The Three Bears journalistic approach. We loved how they managed to capture natural shots and little moments that would have otherwise been missed.’
‘We also filmed a wedding video with Sean at Timeless Productions NI. It might feel a little over the top, but honestly it’s completely worth it, we would highly recommend.’
‘Our first dance – I had choreographed a dance to ‘The Luckiest’, Ben Folds and ‘You make my dreams come true’, Hall and Oates – it was so fun and everybody loved it.’
‘The Prickly Pairs were our wedding band and they were incredible, everybody loved them!’
