Emma and Jason met at school, started talking on Bebo and soon began dating. Two fabulous years later, Jason proposed. “It was a spontaneous proposal at my mum and dad’s house with a Haribo jelly ring,” Emma reveals. “I was then taken to Belfast for a shopping trip to choose my own ring.”

For their wedding reception the couple chose Breckenhill in Ballyclare. “We loved Breckenhill from the moment we saw it,” explains Emma. “The outdoors, the country manor style house and of course the renovated barn which was ideal for the relaxed wedding we always dreamt of.” Added space for sanding in the evening was created with a marquee from Mclaughlin Hire.

Wedding theme

A vintage afternoon tea party, the rainbow pastel colours of Emma’s Nanny and Grandpa’s 1950s wedding and Emma’s love of bird cages were the influences behind Emma and Jason’s relaxed wedding style. Finishing touches on the day were the result a team family effort as Emma reveals: “My mum and I collected all our china for the wedding. We’d get up at 6am in the morning and go rummaging round all the car boot sales and charity shops, it became so addictive! Jason made our tall bird cages that were decorated with candles and ivy and my Granny was kept busy collecting material and making the bunting that decorated the downstairs of the barn for our welcome reception. To finish off the look of our room we hired Chiavari chairs from Grace and Saviour, these added the elegant vintage touch we wanted.”

The couple also got a helping hand from venue styling experts Fairytales: “Barbara was amazing. She provided the lighting, aisle carpet, blossom trees, lanterns and table linen in the marquee.”

The wedding dress

Emma’s white chiffon wedding dress was by Sottero and Midgley. “My dress made me feel amazing, I loved how white it was and how it just seemed to float when I walked. People were amazed to see my pink Swarovski crystal shoes poking out from under the hem.”

Jason wore a grey suit from Hire Class in Ballymena. He wore a white tie to match Emma’s dress and the groomsmen each had a different colour pastel tie to match the bridesmaids and coloured socks as well.

Emma carried mixed tulips and the bridesmaid’s bouquets had pure white by Leaf Designs in Galgorm. Tables were simply decorated with flower filled jars.

Favourite moment

Jason: “The whole reception was my favourite part, from the meal and speeches, to the dodgy dancing on the dance floor!”
Emma: “I loved the buzz the morning of the wedding when all the girls and I were getting ready, but the best moment was walking up the aisle arm in arm with my Dad and seeing Jason waiting for me at the top.”

Top tip:

Agree with most of what your fiancée says, she knows best. And remember everything will turn out all right on the day! Jason
