The Armagh rhymers have been helping couples to celebrate their weddings for many years.
Over this time we have performed a hand-fasting and loving cup ceremony on the top of Navan Fort, Led a ‘bridal parade’ through a beautiful private garden in Co.Down, ‘tied the knot’ and ‘jumped the rope’ outside a country church in Co. Armagh and organised a tree dressing ceremony at a luxury hotel in Co. Cavan.
Charles Dickens wrote in Great Expectations 1861 that a couple were married “over the broom”, the broom being used to cleanse the space and sweep out any bad luck. Jumping the broom is an integral part of the Irish and Welsh marriage tradition and still enacted to this day by the Rhymers. The ‘ring warming’ tradition is a very popular custom that involves the guests and take place during the ceremony. Family members and guests can also join in an emotional and loving ‘hand fasting’ ritual using our ancient Armagh marble hand fasting stone. During the Spring and Summer months, children of all ages can enjoy the time honoured tradition of Maypole dancing.
We offer music suitable for all types of marriage ceremonies.
The Armagh Rhymers, all highly skilled musicians and reciters, play a beautiful range of music and recite poetry to complement and enhance your ceremony. After the marriage, we can provide pre-reception music, song and Irish dancing. After the reception we can organise and play for a ceili. Before they know it your guests will be on their feet enjoying the fun.
Your photographs will be unique.
Guests from other lands will be delighted to see some local culture and join in the ‘craic’, There’ll be amazing opportunities for all.
All the weddings we are involved in are very different and we work with the couple to design a day that they and everyone else will remember forever.
