Markree Castle

The stunning Markree Castle is said to be of such beauty that it inspired the hymn “All Things Bright and Beautiful”

A stunning fairy-tale castle nestled in the Sligo countryside, Markree Castle is said to be of such beauty that it part-inspired the hymn “All Things Bright and Beautiful”. The castle re-opened in March 2017 following a €12 million renovation.

After renovating to an awe-inspiring standard, derelict areas are now restored and original features have been saved where possible. Areas that were beyond repair have been re-created to the highest standard by teams of skilled workmen from all over Europe. Antique paintings and furniture fill the castle and the original rose gardens have spring buds once again.

The wedding and events team look forward to welcoming very special guests to the unique and exclusive venue that is Markree Castle. A charming venue, the castle and its grounds are available exclusively to you and your guests for the duration of your wedding day. For those couples wishing to tie the knot at the venue, the castle offers an elegant chapel – the perfect location in which to say your vows. After the ceremony, relax before greeting your guests in the magnificent Library and Grand Hall.

The Grand Golden Ballroom can host up to 190 guests for a gourmet five-course meal. Once the formalities of the wedding celebration are completed, guests are invited to the castle’s Entertainment Suite. With vaulted ceilings, an enclosed outdoor courtyard, a Gin Bar, large dance floor, full pub bar, a country kitchen serving tea and coffee, a cosy sitting room and a lounge area, the Entertainment Suite is a truly special offering.
