Award-winning blogger Gabriella from Blossom Bride lets us in on her fashion and style advice for the latest bridesmaid trends this winter, with a special focus on the plus size bridesmaid.

Finding the perfect bridesmaid is all about celebrating your friendship and choosing who you want to stand by your side on your big day. So why not celebrate their curves too?  More and more designers are now catering to ALL sizes, enabling you to choose a gown to flatter and fit your curvy bridesmaids no matter what their size.

Why not consider one of the latest trends in bridesmaid fashion for dressing your lovely ladies, by opting for dresses in dark, rich hues that perfectly compliment your autumn/winter wedding. Gabriella says ‘Jewel tones are a key trend coming in at the moment. Bridesmaids in dark jewel tones can be great for curvier, plus size bridesmaids’.

Dark jewel colours are naturally flattering to the figure and combining this with a well-structured dress shape, your curvy maids will be looking and feeling fabulous. Gabriella says ‘I’ve got a real wedding post coming up on my blog where a bride as done just that- and the pictures are stunning!’ Whether you want your ladies in a block colour or you want to try the on-trend Ombré effect in varying jewel hues, there’s something for everyone.

Ruby Red

Deep red and burgundy tones look great on many skin tones and it is the perfect choice for a festive winter wedding! Opt for a bridesmaid dress with a little structure or a belt to nip in their waist and show off their fabulous figure. Gabriella says ‘an embellished belt will help to cinch you in at the waist emphasizing your incredible shape’.

Sapphire Blue

Deep navy and sapphire blue is an elegant and sophisticated choice for your bridesmaid dresses. Many curvy ladies tend to be busty, choosing a dress with good support is the key to feeling comfortable in this instance, like this Lela Rose dress below. A fuller skirt like this Chi Chi dress is also perfect for the plus size bridesmaid as the material skims the bottom half drawing the attention upwards to the hourglass waist. ‘The key to making this style work for you, is the fitted bodice’ says Gabriella, bringing the eye upwards to the shoulders, perfect if you’re conscious about your bottom half!

Amethyst and Berry Hues

Amethyst, purple and berry hues work fantastically with the ombre effect, where you can mix and match your maids depending on their preferred colour of dress. These pretty tones are hugely popular for autumn/winter weddings, and it’s easy to see why.

Elegant Emerald

Make a bold statement and opt for an emerald coloured bridal party. Simultaneously timeless and on-trend, this hue is both rich and luxurious whilst looking elegant against most skin tones. Gabriella says ‘Figure-hugging dresses with lots of structure look beautiful on plus size girls’, like this fitted and glamorous bridesmaid gown by Theia below. Alternatively, keep it quirky and opt for the whimsical romance of a tulle skirt with a fitted and flattering bodice.
