Irish gay couple set to marry after being introduced at Lisdoonvarna’s gay matchmaking festival The Outing
Lisdoonvarna in Co. Clare is renowned as Ireland’s matchmaking capital due to its annual October festival which is dedicated to matching up singletons. Lisdoonvarna’s LGBT music and matchmaking festival, The Outing, began in 2012 and this is the first time that a couple who met at the festival will have a gay wedding.
Both from Offaly, Christina Procter, 33, and Amy Gavin, 30, were set up the old-fashioned way with the help of a matchmaker when they first attended the festival two years ago.
Christina and Amy had worked for the same company but hadn’t met prior to The Outing. When Christina saw on Facebook that Amy was going to Lisdoonvarna she thought that this could be her chance to meet face-to-face.
Christina sought the help of event organiser and matchmaker Eddie McGuinness and Ireland’s favourite drag queen – the outrageous Panti Bliss. She said:
I was already friends with Eddie McGuinness and with Rory O’Neill [Panti] so I told them how much I liked her and how I really wanted to meet her.
Thankfully Eddie got me tickets and at the matchmaking on the Friday night Panti grabbed me by the arm and dragged me over to her.
Panti said, ‘I’ve a feeling you two are just meant to be’. She was so right. We are getting married next year and have Eddie and Rory to thank for setting us on our path.”
The loved up couple will tie the knot in February 2016 and have asked Eddie McGuinness to perform the marriage ceremony.
