Former Miss World Northern Ireland and Agent & Senior Booking Manager with ACA Models, Meagan Green shares her proposal with fiancé Stuart McNeice.
We love a good engagement story and when Meagan told us her partner Stuart had proposed with Wedding Journal Show tickets of course we had to share their story with you all!
Meagan when did you and Stuart get together?
We’ve been together just over a couple of years now and got engaged last December. Now in our 30s, from the start of the relationship we had both made it clear that we wanted to meet the right person, eventually getting married and starting a family; so we both knew that we were on the same page from early on. Ultimately, I knew Stuart was the one for me and that I had found someone very special because he makes me a better version of myself; he’s the most kind, caring, patient and funny person I know.
Was the proposal a surprise when it happened?
A complete surprise! It wasn’t that we hadn’t discussed marriage, but yes, I was totally shocked when it did actually happen. I wasn’t expecting it at all! At that point we had been together a year and a half, we were living together and doing work to our home. We had enjoyed a lot of holidays and trips away that year too, some when our friends had wondered if he was going to pop the question! Christmas is also a busy time of year for the two of us work wise, plus when he did ask it was just a random Wednesday!
Tell us about the proposal
As I said it was a random Wednesday – 13th December 2023! Fortunately, because of my modelling work I always have my nails done in a nice French manicure or nude, pinky tone! I had been extremely busy in work that day and he had sent me a smug photo of himself in the Belfast Christmas Market at City Hall enjoying a little lunch (it turns out he had carried the ring, which was a diamond solitaire he chose himself and picked up earlier that day from Fred J Malcom, around the market with him in his pocket!) I came home from a manic day in the office and I was in the kitchen making a cup of tea when I turned around to see an envelope on the table and in here were two VIP tickets to The Wedding Journal Show. I didn’t think any more of it other than at least he is on the same train of thought as me and we had something to look forward to in October 2024; the next thing I knew Stuart was down on one knee with the ring box in his hand asking me to marry him!
Obviously, my answer was yes, and he already had two bunches of red roses and two bottles of Champagne to bring to announce the news to his parents in Donaghadee and mine in Hillsborough. So, we drove to both that night to celebrate with them. Stuart had asked my father for my hand in marriage so he knew to expect something, he just wasn’t sure when it would be. It was lovely to celebrate with family and see everyone’s reaction and with Christmas coming up we had such a lovely time continuing these celebrations with friends and family over the festive period.
Have you set the date?
Yes, we are getting married on New Year’s Eve 2025. We liked the idea of a black-tie wedding and starting a New Year as a married couple. Plus, we had such a lovely time celebrating our engagement at that time of year, that we felt it would be a good time to celebrate and party with everyone.
