Derry-based X-Factor star Eoghan Quigg and his partner of ten years, Amy Campbell recently surprised everyone with their New York proposal and Las Vegas wedding. We find out more…
‘Eoghan gifted me a trip to New York and Vegas for my 30th birthday and basically before we went we decided that we would take the opportunity to get married in Las Vegas. We’re together 10 years and have four children and just thought it would be fun to tie the knot in the Little White Chapel,’ explains Amy.
‘We started discussing it back in September and I thought Eoghan might have proposed at Christmas, but no ring came and he surprised me with a proposal on Bow Bridge in Central Park, which is a popular location for proposals. He had planned the entire proposal, including a tour of Central Park and capturing the moment with photos and videos. I did start to suspect that something was going on, but he did catch me by suprise when the moment came and I couldn’t get over the beautiful engagement ring that he had designed with the help of Sproules Jewellers in Derry. It features an emerald cut solitaire diamond set in gold and I just love it!
‘After the proposal, we enjoyed the rest of the day together going for dinner and drinks before telling our family and friends the next day. They knew we were going to Vegas, and started to make some little jokes once we announced our engagement, but nobody knew what we had planned!’
Following their New York engagement, Amy and Eoghan travelled to enjoy three nights in Las Vegas. As Amy goes on to explain, ‘Eoghan had arranged (you might be able to tell by this point that Eoghan is the planner in our relationship!) the wedding with the Little White Chapel, messaging them in advance of us travelling. You get a 20 minute slot and we got that booked along with a team to capture photos and videos of us. We worked with Forever Club, and CJ and Justin were also able to act as our witnesses. They had such a cool vibe and we had a great time with them making memories to take home and share with everyone.
‘Actually, we have planned a celebration with our nearest and dearest for July in the new Rafters Suite at The Ebrington Hotel, where we will be showing our wedding video to them all,’ adds Amy.
Amy’s wedding dress was from Pippa Bridal in Coleraine, while Eoghan got his suit from City Man in Derry. Dylan Oaks kindly gifted Amy her jewellery, and she accessorised with a Sophia Webster bag and Jimmy Choo shoes that Eoghan had given her for Christmas. On the wedding day, the couple enjoyed a relaxed morning with a big breakfast, went for a walk, and got ready together in their room.
‘The whole day was just so relaxed and a bit surreal,’ reminisces Amy. ‘I felt like we were in a movie and after the Chapel we headed out to downtown Las Vegas and Fremont Street, capturing video and images at iconic points along the way.
‘Once this was done, we then headed back to our hotel to change into something more comfortable before heading out for dinner and dandering around taking it all in.
‘Since we’ve been home it all feels like a bit of a fever dream. We never expected our wedding to attract so much attention, but I suppose because it’s not the norm, and people have been so lovely coming up and congratulating us.
‘We’ve no regrets taking ourselves off to get married, and the day was everything we hoped for. We just did us and life is too short not to live it for yourself. If you feel like eloping, wherever that may be, remember that your family and loved ones aren’t going to mind – they just want you to be happy. It should be about what is right for you and your partner and you can come back and throw a big party to celebrate with everyone afterwards!’
