Former Pop Idol winner Gareth Gates has announces his engagement to Coronation Street actress Faye Brookes after proposing in New York.
The pair met seven years ago when Faye played the leading lady, Elle Woods, in the musical adaptation of Legally Blonde, and Gareth played her boyfriend, Warner.
They got together not long after playing these roles and after six years together, they are taking the next step. Last year, the pair split for two months because of their busy work schedules but they found their way back to each other.
Faye, 31 achieved her dream of being a TV actress when she landed her current role in 2015 on the set of Coronation Street where she plays Kate Connor.
Gareth, 34 took Faye on a trip to New York and the proposal took place in his friends apartment. Faye was serenaded by the singer in a seventeen minute long ballad that consisted of moments and songs on a grand piano special to their relationship. After which, Faye was presented with a four-carat diamond ring and the all important question!
Gareth told OK! Magazine ‘The song was all about the six years we’ve spent together and I incorporated bits of songs that mean a lot to us as a couple. I got a bit carried away though – it went on for seventeen minutes!’
