Courtney and Jamie were the winners of the amazing £30,000 Wedding package with The Wedding Journal Show on Sunday 6th October 2024.
The pair met online eight years ago and they’ve been inseparable ever since. Their son Danny, now four, was born in 2020 and they got engaged a year later in 2021. However, with life taking over, their wedding plans have had to take a bit of a back seat – until now!
Courtney was one of the five lucky Cool FM Breakfast Show winners at the end of September who made it straight through to the live final for the chance of winning this incredible prize. The Friday winner with Cool FM, she won a girly getaway at the Roe Park Resort and her place in the live final too.
‘I was collecting Jamie from work and while sitting in the car I heard about the Winning Week with The Wedding Journal Show on Cool FM, so I decided to go on and register interest in the Friday competition because by this stage they were already a couple of days into it all,’ explains Courtney.
‘I’m not usually that lucky, even though I would occassionally enter various competitions, so I couldn’t believe it when I heard I was shortlisted for Friday. Then, at 8am on Friday morning, my phone went and before I knew it, I had won the stay at the Roe Park. When I came off air and they also told me I was in the final to Win A £30,000 Wedding at The Wedding Journal Show and needed to come along for the live final on the Sunday. I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t actually realise this was part of it all too!’
Alongside 11 other couples who made it into the live final, Courtney and Jamie had to compete in three rounds, which saw 11 become five and five then become two. In the first round, our 11 couples randomly selected 11 ring boxes, but only five had a ring inside! Then in round two the five that made it through, randomly selected a box to stand behind and when they opened the lid only two had silver balloons inside.
As Courtney comments: ‘I couldn’t believe it when we made it through the first round, never mind the second, and then to be one of the final two! It hit me that we could actually win this amazing prize!’
In the final round, Courtney and Jamie had to compete against the other remaining couple, Emma and Padraic, in a question and answer round. It was a tense finish as both couples took it to a tie-breaker question when they gave the same answer to the first question asked! However, when it came to the second question there was no doubt who the winners were and to say they were shocked and delighted would be an understatement!
‘We are still buzzing from the weekend. We are so delighted to have won and really excited for the wedding day we will now be having, which wouldn’t have been possible at the moment without winning this prize.
‘We were meant to get married in June 2024, but we pushed it back because we found a house we loved and with a four-year-old and another on the way at the moment, our financial priorities always seem to be pulling us in other directions.
‘Fortunately, our venue were happy to hold our deposit until we were ready to reschedule, and we are now looking at dates in June 2026 that work for all of the prize partners and the venue, to finally have the wedding day we’ve always wanted.’
As the winners, Courtney and Jamie have won a luxurious Caribbean honeymoon at The Crane Barbados, a décor and entertainment package from Fairy Tales Weddng Specialists, Courtney will have her pick of dresses from Orchid Bridal Studio, Jamie and his leading men will be suited and booted by Freddie Hatchet and the couple can choose their wedding rings from McWhirter the Jeweller. They also have a photography and film package from Tait Young Wedding Photo & Film and will be glowing on the day with the expert help of the team at Thérapie Clinic.
