Sheer Bride, Sheer Summer
It may be about time we update the rhyme ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something….see through.’
The barely there trend is still extremely popular. Designers are using sheer paneling in lots of ways with dresses featuring illusion necklines, backs, midriffs, arms and legs.
The traditional white dress was made popular by Queen Victoria in 1840, she wanted to display the handmade Honiton lace from the small village of Beer, to support the declining lace trade and give the industry a boom.
While bridal style has a history of being ladylike and demure, the traditional white hue is thought to signify purity. However new wedding dresses are looking less and less virginal.
Celebrities, it seems, can’t get enough of the sheer look and we’ve been seeing it all over the red carpet.
Often, it’s really about visual illusion. A lace dress with silk lining in your skin tone is the easiest way to do it—it gives the impression that you’re not wearing anything underneath when in fact you are.
Here’s a look at how designers are incorporating the sheer trend into their collections!
Fierce femininity – these dresses stand out for all the right reasons. Sheer lace details and clean geometric lines provide the balance that give all of Rime’s dresses the ‘rock n’ roll’ edge. Unashamedly sexy, but maintaining the feel of Parisienne chic, Rime’s dresses are for brides looking to ‘break the mould’.
There is an ethereal quality to the lace, shirred tulle, and 3-D florals. This collection looks like they would be well suited for a garden or summer wedding.
