What’s on the horizon when it comes to wedding dress style? We’ve curated our update of the very latest 2021 trends.
All eyes will be on the catwalks in the weeks to come in anticipation of the very latest wedding dress looks.
With many designers now launching their 2021 autumn winter collections, we take a look at the hottest trends – from plunging backs and statement necklines to detachable elements and minimalist looks.
Illusion Elements
Instead of the weighty satin and silk that has long been traditional in wedding dresses, designers are coming up with stunningly beautiful nude, sheer and illusion wedding dresses, featuring illusion lace or tulle and often teamed with a nude toned underlay.
Dramatic Backs
All eyes are on the back as you sweep up the aisle, so it makes sense to show off one of your sexiest assets. Designers are showcasing the back, making use of everything from deep-Vs to scoop backs as well as some showstopping illusion looks.
Minimalist
Super sleek silhouettes, minimal detailing and rich fabrics are in vogue for a look that will really turn heads. This is a look that really won’t date, so no regrets when you look at your wedding photos 10 years from now.
Delicate and floaty
Designers have turned to gorgeous filmy fabrics such as English net, soft chiffon and sheer organza for a light as air look that is eminently wearable and beautifully ethereal.
The Cold Shoulder
This classic style is huge at the moment and is so very flattering and romantic. Even better, there are so many takes on the look, from cap sleeves to bishop sleeves, long sleeves and more, that it can be adapted to any style.
Statement necklines
This year, there is no traditional wedding dress neckline – you can choose from the very Bridgerton-esque Regency square neckline to the plunging V and the endless permutations of the high neckline, or even the asymmetric neckline.
Transformative looks
The ‘one dress two looks’ style is one of our favourites this year – designers have come up with a wealth of clever ways, including detachable overskirts, trains and sleeves, to transform your gown into a completely different look, carrying you seamlessly from ceremony to dancefloor and possibly even fooling your guests into thinking you’ve splashed out on two dresses!
Ruffles
Ruffles are turning up everywhere this year, from great flouncy skirts to elegant detailing at the wrists of long sleeves and even enhancing the neckline – nothing could be more flirty, joyous and romantic.
3D Elements
Texture has been on the rise for some time and we’re seeing a host of 3D floral looks right now that will add drama to your gown and deliver that ethereal vibe. Alternatively, consider adding other 3D elements such as bows, beading or feathers for some extra pizzazz.
Dramatic Trains
There’s no getting away from it, trains will reliably deliver the wow factor you want and we are seeing some particularly dramatic looks right now – including unique shapes, illusion cutout detailing and even sharply unembellished trains that will look beautifully minimalist.
