It’s supposed to be the best day of your life – yet that feeling of joy can quickly dissipate when you discover the limited range of dress sizes on offer.

It can be hard enough to find your style when you’re shopping for ordinary plus-size clothes but wedding dresses are even trickier – many bridal brands will only stock limited size ranges even though the average UK dress size is 16.

Meanwhile, wedding dresses will tend to run small anyway, which means that even if you take size 16 in your work suits, you may find yourself at closer to 18 or 20 in a wedding dress.

But these days more and more shops are stocking plus size dresses and many are recognising that what works for one bride may not work for another. Dresses are increasingly coming with more imaginative design options.
