An Intro to Rosie & Dott

My name is Siobhéal and I am the VERY proud owner of this small accessory business based in Dublin!

Back in 2011 I was the Dublin Rose in a very famous festival here in Ireland called The Rose of Tralee Festival. Women from all over the country and all over the world are chosen to represent where they’re from and it was through this experience that my life totally changed! I met the most incredible pals and this is even how I met my hubby, Brian! 

Rosie & Dott is named after an amazing woman that came into my life in 2011 called Dorothy ‘Dott’ Henggeler. Dott was the 2011 Washington DC Rose.

One thing is for sure – Dott loved nothing more than having the best time and making everyone around her feel like a million bucks. Dott unfortunately passed away in 2014. When I thought about starting this business I knew I had to name it after someone who was not only a complete lady but a hardworking, go get ’em, take no prisoners legend!

After being made redundant at the start of 2019 and after spending way too long in jobs I was not happy in, I decided to just go for it and try to make this dream of mine work so here we are!

Since the single was released earlier this month, its heartfelt lyrics have been striking a chord with couples young and old across the world, and in less than a week since the video was released, it’s already been viewed tens of thousands of times.

For the singer, the song has a special double meaning now as Nathan explains: “Shay played the demo to me just over a year ago and asked if I’d be interested in releasing it. It was an honour for me to be offered the opportunity to be the first to record it, and of course, I said yes immediately.

“I didn’t know then that it would be one of the last songs my friend would pen, as sadly Shay passed away soon after. I know he’d have wanted us to go ahead and in his honour, we’ve released it to mark his first anniversary. The lyrics were written about the journey of romantic love, but when I listen to them now, I can relate them to the journey of life too, which we’re all on.“

Determined to get the mix just right, the singer travelled to France to record it with acclaimed producers Chris Neill  & Kevin Malpass and features the Fames Macedonian Symphonic Orchestra.

Nathan continues: “A song as special as this deserved special treatment, and the addition of the orchestra is amazing. It was incredible to have the opportunity to work with such talent. Shay never got to hear the final mix, but I am certain he would approve.”

Apricity was launched by Newtownabbey beauty salon owner Erin Woods after last year’s lockdown forced the beauty industry to close its doors.

When her salon, Elite Beauty was forced to close, Erin wasted no time in thinking up new ideas and came up with the notion of Apricity Tan.

“Like many others I spent the first two weeks of lockdown crying and panicking, but I pride myself on being a positive person so once the initial shock wore off I knew I had to find a way to create another income stream,” Erin says.

 “I’d never been out of work before and wanted to put my time to good use. Three years ago I’d had the idea of launching my own range of self-tan but never followed through with it. 

“But with nothing else to do and no money coming in I decided it was now or never and began contacting manufacturers all over the world. After lots of research, hundreds of samples and some awful tan disasters in between, Apricity was born.”

Apricity is manufactured in the US, vegan friendly and sustainably sourced, and Erin wanted to create a product that would empower women and make them feel good about themselves, which is why the marketing campaign for Apricity has centred on real women with real bodies.

 “Being confident in your own skin is what our brand is all about,” Erin says. “I’m a mum of one who has struggled with her weight over the years so I didn’t want to be responsible for contributing to this notion that beauty only comes in one shape or size.”

 The range currently consists of three shades of self-tanning mousse, a facial mist, a tanning brush and a mitt, but Erin has ambitious plans for the brand,with plans for new products already in the pipeline. 

“I’m a firm believer that you can achieve anything in life if you put your mind to it and launching Apricity has been a dream come true. I feel like this is only the start of the journey though and I’m excited for what the future holds next,” she says.
