Get your Pinterest boards ready for the latest wedding craze! Jewel tones are super hot right now so if you’re planning an autumnal or winter affair, spice it up with this be-jewelled wedding inspo…

When it comes to autumn and winter weddings we’ve all seen the same colour palettes from mustards, burnt oranges to greens and reds. Not that we don’t love these, but there’s a new wedding trend on the market giving us all the regal and royal inspo for a fresh new look!

Think emerald greens, plush plums and deep purples – sounds a little bold, but together these be-jewelled tones create an edgy and chic combo! The beautiful mix of dark shades work so well with different textures like vintage lace, dark wooden tables and soft velvet accents.

An old country house or estate would be the perfect setting (somewhere with a peacock roaming around the lawns!). Don’t be afraid to get bold with your flowers, suit and décor and choose all the jewel tones you can find. Add in some gold finishing touches and you’re on your way to having a stylish and sophisticated affair!

GET THE LOOK…

The Dress

The Bridesmaids

For the girls, go bold with rich shades of plum, emerald or teal. You can either have them all in one solid shade or mix it up with some maids in dark emerald or teal, and some in deep purple, wine or plum – trust us, when they all come together it’s going to look amazing! Here’s some style inspo by Sorella Vita from Marie Me Bridal.

Find out more about Marie Me Bridal HERE

The Flowers

Go wild with your wedding flowers and choose deep tones mixed with bright colours and decadent green leaves. We love this bold and beautiful bouquet by Bella Botanica for a rich and luxurious look! Go for English garden roses, Sterling Silver Roses and Angustifolia for different shades of plum, purple and delicate blues and tie together with a lush velvet ribbon.

Find out more about Bella Botanica HERE

The Suit

For the groom and the guys, don’t shy away from bold colours such as wine, plum and emerald. These tuxes from Freddie Hatchet are giving us all the regal and royal wedding inspo! Mix and match with touches of black or even go for a velvet number for that extra style factor!

Find out more about Freddie Hatchet HERE

The Cake

Get creative with your cake and go for rich emeralds, teals, wines and plums paired with wild flowers and a touch of gold. We love this cake design by MM Cookies for a royal and feast-like statement centrepiece – almost too good to eat!

Find out more about MM Cookies HERE

The Stationery

Don’t be afraid to go for a dark tone of invite with lighter font in gold or rose gold like these stunning creations from The Invite Hub. Mix straight edged paper and rough textured, hand-made paper for a contrast in textures that complement each other beautifully!

Find out more about The Invite Hub HERE

The Décor

This wedding look is a quite decadent so plush velvet, teal and touches of gold with beautiful floral arrangements like this set-up by Fairy Tales Wedding & Event Specialists will really add to this theme. Choose a blush table cloth with some match taper candles for a touch of contrast and glamour.

Find out more about Fairy Tales Weddings & Events Specialists HERE

The Accessories

Add the finishing touches to your wedding wardrobe by adding some gold vintage glamour! Accessories aren’t just for the bride, you know – the groom can also spice up his suit with some sparkly cufflinks – check out these pieces from Steensons Jewellers for some style inspo.

Find out more about Steensons Jewellers HERE

Cute Coverups

The wedding day leather jacket has to be one of our favourite recent trends that also works perfectly with this wedding colour palette! Add your own personal touch to your cover-up with your new name on the back and some cute flowers to tie the whole look together.

Learn the wedding dress silhouettes before you start your dream dress search!

What’s the difference between mermaid and fit-and-flare anyway? Learn the wedding dress silhouettes before you start your dream dress search!

For every bride-to-be, the ring isn’t the only thing you’re going to say ‘YES’ to. One of the most exciting and important decisions to come next is the dress, and every detail counts – right down to the silhouette!

Don’t know all the wedding dress terminology just yet? (totally normal btw!) We’re here to give you a helping hand with a rundown of all the wedding dress silhouettes so you can find what best complements your style and shape.

RELATED TO: How to Choose The Best Wedding Dress Style For Your Body Shape?

As you browse, keep these rules in mind to prepare you for your bridal appointment…

 • A fitted column, mermaid or fit-and-flare gown will accentuate your curves (or create the illusion of them).
 • Pleats or gathers around the waist can magnify this area. A tight-fitted high-waist and loose skirt will combat this.
 • When in doubt, consider an A-line gown which works for almost any shape!

Ball Gown

Did someone say fairytale princess? Well that’s exactly what you get with the ballgown silhouette! Volume? Check. Drama? Check. Classic? Yes, of course! The ball gown has a fitted bodice and a full skirt and is ideal for most body types, but can be overwhelming on petite brides with small frames. Check out these stunning dresses from McElhinney’s of Ballybofey and La Bella Sposa for the ultimate princess gown!

Find out more about McElhinney’s of Ballybofey HERE

Fit-and-Flare

If you’re looking for a style that shows off that gorgeous figure, this dress does just that! The fit-and-flare style is literally fitted through the body and flares out mid-thigh – ideal for brides looking to accentuate a small waist and it also works well with hourglass figures as well as petite body types. We love these figure-hugging styles from Romantique Bridal and The Wild Rose Boutique.

Mermaid

Similar to the fit-and-flare gown, this style is sleek and sexy and contours the body from the chest to the knee and is flared thereon. The silhouette is known to emphasize the waist and hips rather than narrowing it, especially if you’re apple-shaped. Accent your curves in these showstopping styles from Divinity Bridal and Angelo Bridal!

Find out more about Divinity Bridal HERE

Find out more about Angelo Bridal HERE

Column

The column silhouette is a more toned-down version of the mermaid dress – think a narrow shape that flows straight down from the neckline to the hem with the flare starting mid-thigh. These dresses usually have a high neckline, hence the ‘column’ nickname, and are best suited to lean frames and athletic body types. They also work great with hourglass figures and for the brides who want to flaunt their curves. Steal the show in one of these gorgeous dresses from Amsha Bridal and The Bridal Company NI.

A-line

This silhouette is a universal favorite as it complements almost every body type. Feminine and oh-so-flattering, this style of gown cinches you at the waist and flares out into a beautiful full skirt – giving you a princess feel, but with less structure and more flow. This is a great choice for pear-shaped or curvy brides. We love these styles from The One and White Gold Bridal!

Tea-Length

This is the perfect style if you’re looking for that ‘something old, something new’ feel. This ankle-grazing silhouette is giving us all the vintage vibes and is perfect for the fashion-forward and unconventional bride. With a hemline that falls above the knee, it’s elegant, girly and a little bit different – and best of all, it looks just as good on a slim frame as a curvy one. Get inspired with these styles from Orchid Bridal Studio and Marie Me Bridal.

Finding that perfect wedding suit is a little easier when you know just what to look for – check out these statement styles to find your perfect match!

The big day’s approaching so it’s time to suit up and look sharp, but do you know what style to go for? From timeless colours to rustic tweeds and checked suits, there’s more choice than ever when it comes to what to wear when you tie the knot.

When choosing your suit style there are three main points to consider – is this style right for me? Does it match the formality of my day? Will it work with what my partner is wearing? Keep these in mind while we take a look at the different styles out there and see if we can help you find the right look for your big day!

RELATED TO: Protocol for Men Reveal The Most Popular Suit Style for Grooms

Timeless & Traditional

If you’re thinking of an elegant country house wedding or castle venue, a traditional navy or formal suit works perfectly for this theme and setting! Navy or grey numbers are still up there with the most popular wedding suit styles and we can see why – they’re sleek, neat and never go out of style!

Tradition dictates that a morning suit (or tails) is the only attire acceptable on your wedding day, but nowadays ‘formal’ includes two and three-piece suits as well so you’ve got a few more options to choose from. We’re loving these classy styles from Red Groomswear and Best Menswear for timeless and traditional vibes.

Bold & Boho

The boho groom is someone who thinks outside the box and doesn’t follow the status quo. So if you’re looking for something a little different and daring for your special day, think bold patterns and alternative colours like these stylish finds from Tomorrows Menswear and Freddie Hatchet.

RELATED TO: Freddie Hatchet’s New Mobile Tailoring System Allows Grooms To Create Their Dream Suit

For a truly unique look, don’t be afraid to mix and match with different colours and patterns and finish it off with some statement accessories. This look works best for the chic city wedding or stylish backyard do!

Modern & Contemporary

Many modern-day grooms are ditching solid colour suits and switching things up with savvy check numbers like these fashionable finds from Magee 1866 and Best Menswear.

Checks are huge in groomswear this season and give a modern and contemporary feel to your traditional navy or grey suit. So if you were pondering with the idea of going for a bolder print, this is your sign to have a little fun with your wedding attire!

Casual & Chic

This groom’s style is definitely for the more laidback and chilled guy, and let’s face it, not everyone looks fully at ease in a formal suit! These super casual and sleek styles from Magee 1866 and Louis Copeland and Sons are perfect for a relaxed and informal event.

RELATED TO: Groomswear Demand Surges By 50% Since Before Pandemic, Says Hire Class

Think about ditching the tie, the jacket or the formal shoes, and bring in a casual shirt and trainers, or even shorts depending on how chilled you want to be and if your venue suits. Laidback barns are perfect for this kind of look, but just make sure your partner is on board with this level of informality too before you commit!

Rustic & Country

Definitely a popular choice recently that’s much less formal than traditional styles yet still smart and stylish. We love these rustic finds from Tomorrow’s Menswear and JJ Donnelly – this is a great option if you’re looking for something different for your wedding and obviously works perfectly at a country barn venue or rural country house.

Ditch the solid black, grey and navy suits and think tweeds, check shirts, waistcoats and neutral colours for an awesome rustic look. It works well for anyone who wants to combine style with a relaxed vibe, as well as anyone who has the country in their heart!

Images from Lady Kitty Spencer’s wedding have just dropped, showing her extravagant Italian ceremony in which she wore not 1 but 7 showstopping Dolce & Gabbana dresses!

We love a good royal wedding here at Ireland’s Wedding Journal and we knew to expect nothing less than a fashionable extravaganza from model Lady Kitty Spencer’s wedding to retail businessman Michael Lewis.

If you’re a bride looking for some wedding style inspiration or just curious to see what all the fuss is about then you’re in the right place – so let’s take a closer look at the Roman nuptials and statement styles from the latest royal wedding.

RELATED TO: Why Princess Diana’s Iconic Wedding Dress Is Still Making Headlines

The ceremony took place on Saturday 24th July and gave us everything we wanted from the ultimate fairytale wedding with a ceremony in an Italian castle, not to mention seven breathtaking dresses!

Of course, it helps when you happen to be a global ambassador for the one and only Dolce & Gabbana who carefully crafted a number of exclusive handmade gowns for Kitty to wear over her three-day celebration.

RELATED TO: Three Wedding Dresses Are Better Than One!

Our royal bride kicked off the party with a bright and colourful illusion baby-blue tulle gown featuring cross-stitched embroidered flowers for the eve of her wedding.

She then chose a unique Victorian-inspired gown for her ceremony which echoed her mother’s own wedding dress. It featured an intricate floral lace detailing, high neckline, corseted bodice and long sleeves with statement shoulders.

RELATED TO: Long Sleeve Wedding Dresses You’ll Love

However, unlike her mother (and her aunt Diana), she chose not to wear the Spencer family tiara on her wedding day. Instead, the bride wore a dramatic cathedral-length veil matching the exquisite lace on her gown and carried a small posy of sweet pea.

Following the ceremony, Lady Kitty Spencer changed into a double organza hand-painted silk gown, embellished with flowers and crystals, for the reception.

To finish off the night, the bride changed for a third time to dance the night away in a Dolce & Gabbana cocktail dress embroidered with silver and golden beads.

The day after her wedding, Lady Spencer wore her final custom look – a Mikado silk dress with cutwork inserts, embellished with tiny sequins, appliqué flowers and ribbons.

The iconic gowns are shown in a video posted on Instagram by Dolce & Gabbana, highlighting how each dress celebrated “the beauty of the bride, the passion for Alta Moda and the absolute joy of the occasion.”

The royal wedding celebrations began on Friday night with a dinner party at the exclusive baroque restaurant in Rome Galleria Del Cardinale, before the sunset wedding ceremony on Saturday, held at the Villa Aldo Brandini.

After the ceremony, guests were treated to a luxurious reception dinner decorated with blooms and golden table settings with hand-written place cards and napkins adorned with Kitty and Michael’s initials.

A lit-up dance floor surrounded by floral arches awaited the newlyweds for dancing and to finish off the night the guests were wowed with an extravagant fireworks display.

The Owner of White Gold Bridal reveals some exciting details of her upcoming catwalk show this Summer and hints at new designer collections to come…

There’s no denying we’re big fans of White Gold Bridal in Broughshane who have been helping brides from all over Ireland to find their dream dress for over 15 years now.

White Gold Bridal provides a luxurious shopping experience like no other with wedding dresses that are timeless and contemporary, focussing on building your confidence and showing off your best assets.

We spoke to the owner and founder Dorothy Cairns who reveals exciting plans for her upcoming catwalk fashion show on 22nd August when brides will be able to get all dolled up and back in the planning spirit!

“This year I thought everyone’s fed up with all the doom and gloom and I wanted to organise something different to get everyone all dressed up to have a little girly day out!” she says.

“There will be champagne and reception on arrival with high tea, and we will also have a best dressed lady competition for a bit of fun where everyone can get all glammed up for the day.

“While the girls are sitting back and relaxing and enjoying their high tea, it will be a catwalk around the tables inspired by Selfridges so it’s not going to be a standard runway and will be very different.

“George Hutton, who is an Irish tenor singer songwriter, will perform and serenade to the ladies as well, so it will be a really exciting evening!”

The catwalk will showcase collections from luxury bridalwear designers like Martina Liana form whom White Gold Bridal is the only stockist in Northern Ireland. There will also be collections from Essence of Australia and the award-winning London based designer of Eliza Jane Howell.

“Fingers crossed, we can get Gill Harvey and Andrea Cutts from Eliza Jane Howell over if all goes to plan with the flights,” Dorothy says.

“Gill Harvey designs the collections herself and the detail on them are absolutely amazing with 1920/30s look, and her new Studio 54 collection is fabulous.

RELATED TO: How to Choose The Best Wedding Dress Style For Your Body Shape?

“She also has another new collection which is coming up now and will be released in September. It’s a bit hush-hush now at the moment, but keep your eyes peeled!

“Martina Liana is a recently new collection which is exclusive to White Gold Bridal and offers something for the modern and forward-thinking bride. It also gives her the option to chop and change her dress exactly how she wants so it really becomes custom-made to bespoke.”

Martina Liana

Dorothy Cairns has now started a new personal stylist service in which brides-to-be who need that extra guidance can get a rundown of what works best for them.

“I’m finding that sometimes brides come to their first appointment and don’t know what were to start and that’s my job to guide them. So what I’ve introduced is private conversations over Zoom before coming in where I chat with them about their body shape and what colours would look best on them to give them an idea of what to look for,” she says.

Dorothy’s Podcast ‘All Things Bridal’, which became a hit earlier this year with brides-to-be, will also be returning soon.

RELATED TO: Supplier of the Week: McElhinney’s of Ballybofey

“It’s received a lot of good feedback with listeners coming back saying they’ve really enjoyed it and asking when it’s coming back. I think it just gives girls something to focus on when they’re on their own wedding planning journey,” she says.

“My first episode in January was on plus size brides and I’ve had one on visionary veils and lingerie and did one with Evolve by Samara who’s a personal stylist and Emma Rock Photography, so it’s been lots of fun and we hope to be returning soon.”

From navy numbers to classic tuxedos, Protocol for Men has something to suit everyone – but which styles are the most popular this wedding season?

Protocol for Men have been a top favourite suit store in Ireland, helping countless grooms find their dream wedding wardrobe since 1985.

We’ve chatted to so many grooms from our real life weddings who choose Protocol for Men for their big day and their suits did not disappoint!

So, if you want to look sharp beside your blushing bride, then head down to their Dublin or Swords stores to find the suit of your dreams.

RELATED TO: Supplier of the Week: JJ Donnelly Menswear

We spoke to the Assistant Manager, Daniela Soares, who told us all about the top style and service from Protocol for Men.

“Our biggest brand would definitely be Benetti which is also an Irish label, and they are very popular and a forward thinking brand, especially for wedding suits,” she says.

“We also have Herbie Frogg which is an English Brand and Carl Gross which is a German brand and Skopes – they would be our main suit collections.”

In addition to these luxury labels, Protocol for Men’s other suit collections include Marc Darcy, Travis and Black-Tie which are also very popular with grooms. Although when it comes to the most popular style of suit, the navy number is still a big wedding winner.

“The bestseller is definitely still a good fitting navy suit.” Daniela says. “It’s still the top dog, even though navy has been around for a while and we think sometimes grey might take over, right now it’s a big style for weddings.

“The tuxedos would probably be the next most popular choice – they are definitely making a huge comeback for weddings and are a classic style which gives you a little something different for your day.”

With a lot of attention on the brides when it comes to weddings, Protocol for Men are passionate about making the groom a number one priority.

“Sometimes the bride gets a lot of attention for the wedding, but we make sure the groom is our number one and gets 101% from us,” Daniela adds.

“Even if they just come in for an hour or they want more time, we never rush and it’s zero pressure. Our staff soon become the groom’s friend in a way, and they can have a little banter and talk about football and other things and it’s always a comfortable and fun experience.

“Some guys can come in feeling a bit like a deer in the headlights and walk out afterwards like ‘that’s nowhere near as bad as I thought’ and they can actually enjoy the suit shopping experience!”

And to make suit shopping even easier, Protocol for Men also offer tailoring and alterations, whilst catering for a range of budgets and providing options for both hire and rental suits.

RELATED TO: How To Write The Ultimate Groom’s Speech

“In our Dublin Branch we have a tailor in-store who has been highly trained for 15+ years and we work with another expert in Swords and provide all the tailoring for our suits when needed.

“We also never charge for alterations on top of our packages so our wedding suits will always include alterations.

“With hire and retail options, we don’t just stick to one or the other and have multiple choices for both. Sometimes people will buy one or two suits and then hire the rest, so you’re able to have a mix and match and do what works best for you and your budget.

“Our retails packages include three suits for €750 and the hire package would be three suits for around €450 and we do a lot of different package deals which we’re very well known for. We also discuss budgets and try and work around the customers’ needs and provide good quality for a fair price.”

Although an appointment is not needed, Daniela recommends booking a designated time when you can discuss your needs with expertly trained consultants.

“We’re not strictly only by appointments and we try and help people where we can, but we definitely encourage appointments, especially with how busy things are now – it really does help.” Daniela says.

RELATED TO: Has Your Man Turned Into A Groomzilla?

“For the first appointment we recommend a 1-on-1 consultation with the bride and groom so we get to hear exactly what they want. After this, we can then start the measuring process for each of the groomsmen. The final stage is one last fitting just to make sure everything is perfect and ready for the big day!

“We are with them through every step of the process and would like to think we take the hassle out of it for the grooms, especially with the alterations, tailoring and finding things like waistcoats to match etc – from start to finish we make sure everything is looked after for that special day.”

Think pink as the pretty and ever-popular hue returns to weddings. Here are 10 fresh ways to use pink in your bridesmaid gowns.

We’ve seen all sorts of unusual tones in bridesmaids dresses of late, from cool sea-blues and sage greens to deep burgundies and even gunmetal grey.

But there’s one colour that never really went out of style – pink is back on the catwalk as we indulge our hopelessly romantic side.

It’s not just for spring weddings – certainly pale blush is gorgeous in April and May, but dusky rose goes well with the warm hues of late summer and autumn, and strong pinks will bring a sizzling zing to a winter wedding.

Finding the perfect wedding dress is a little easier when you know what to look for – here’s which dress styles will work best for your body shape.

When you’re on the hunt for your dream wedding dress, you want something that is figure flattering and shows off all your best assets. Whether you have an hourglass, triangle or oval body shape, there’s a dress style out there that is perfect for you.

We know wedding dress shopping can feel a bit like trying to find a needle in a haystack – with so many different styles, shapes and sizes to choose from, it’s hard to know where to begin.

So, to help you narrow down the search, we’ve done a little digging to find out which styles are the most flattering for your body type and what trends you want to avoid…

READ OUR LATEST MAGAZINE ISSUE – JAN FEB 2023 DIGITAL ISSUE

The Hourglass

Brides with an hourglass body shape normally have a more defined waist, wider hips and a bigger bust. You’re very curvaceous and have one of the most desirable body shapes there is, so let’s look at the best styles to show off your curvaceous assets.

Avoid: Your bust and hips are already perfectly balanced, so it’s best not to add any extra weight to these areas. Stay away from ball gown, empire or princess-style dresses with fuller skirts, as this may make you appear bigger in these areas and will be less flattering to your shape.

RELATED TO: In Praise of the Plus Size Gown

Look for: Instead, look for dresses that hug and show off those gorgeous curves such as a silhouette or mermaid style. Also, a sweetheart or plunge neckline may work better for you than a halter or high neck dress, as this will keep you balanced out and flatter your bustier assets.

The Pear Shape

If you have a pear body shape, you tend to have hips that are wider than your bust area and a defined waist. You may have very feminine neck and shoulders and be smaller in the chest area with a petite and narrow build.

Avoid: It’s best not to go for empire dress styles as they may hide your dainty figure and can create the illusion that you are bigger in size than you are in reality.

Look for: Wedding dresses that are more fitted to your shape such as a sleek silhouette or fishtail/mermaid dress. Sleeved dresses are also a good option to balance out your smaller shoulders with your wider hips.

The Triangle Shape

If your shoulders and upper body are proportionally bigger than your lower body, then you probably have a triangle shape. You may have broad shoulders with a slimmer waist and smaller hips, giving you a column shape.

Avoid: Stay clear from strapless, off-the-shoulder or halter neck dresses as this can highlight your wider shoulders and may have you looking out of proportion.

RELATED TO: Steal Their Style: Celebrity Inspired Wedding Dresses

Look For: Opt for a symmetrical or v-neck style as this works perfectly with the inverted triangle shape. Fuller straps and sleeves also flatter your figure and make your shoulders look more subtle. You may also want to look for dresses with more detail such as lace or embellishments as this will help you appear broader and more fully balanced.

The Oval Shape

The oval body shape, which is often referred to as apple, is seen on brides who have a larger bust, narrow hips and a fuller torso area. You have a more rounded shape midsection and tend to have slender legs and arms.

Avoid: Halter or high neck gowns run the risk of drowning you out in the chest area and give your other areas little to no definition. Stay clear of dresses that draw attention to your waist and pleat patterns as they are less flattering for your figure.

RELATED TO: What Shapewear Do You Need For The Perfect Bridal Silhouette?

Look for: Look for styles that have a subtle or straight shape such as an empire or A-line dress. These styles, with flared skirts that flow through the waistline, will give the illusion of a curvier and more balanced shape. Dresses with lower necklines and more detail on the chest area will also draw the eye upwards and away from the fuller midsection area of your body.

The Rectangle Shape

Brides who have a rectangle body type, which is also called the banana shape, have a straighter figure with shoulders, waist and hips being all within the same width. You may also be tall, have little waist definition and a smaller bust.

Avoid: Try to avoid figure hugging dresses such as mermaid, fishtail or silhouette styles as this will highlight your straight shape and give you less definition. Also, high necklines may make you appear longer and less balanced in shape.

Look for: A-line, empire, ball gowns and princess-style dresses are your go-tos – these styles with a fuller bottom will help bring more definition to your shape and create the illusion of a curvier figure.

Romantic, natural and oh so subtle, sage is back in a big way when it comes to bridesmaids’ dresses.

This season has been more than a little schizophrenic when it comes to bridal colours.

On the one hand you have big and bold, with hot pinks, tangerines and classic blues.

But we’re also seeing a gorgeously shifting, mesmerising palette of subtle hues that might not have been on the menu in previous years – tones of grey merging into sea greens and melting stormy blues.

And as the seasons have changed and we’ve all had time to reflect on our tones of choice, one coolly chic hue is emerging as a frontrunner.

Sage is coming to the forefront as a subtle reposte to all those garish try-hard colours of the past – and tying in beautifully with those homespun boho decor styles and DIY aesthetic.

RELATED TO: Four undone hairstyles for an effortless bridal look

What’s wonderful about sage is that it’s so hard to pin down – almost pastel, almost khaki, almost blue, almost grey.

It lifted our spirits in the weddings of winter 2020 and brings a breath of fresh air and new life into the revived pairings of spring.

Sage green is as natural as they come, and as relaxed as it gets. It doesn’t vie for attention or scream high glamour, and you’ll never go wrong pairing it with taupe and wooden decor.

Chiffon floor length bridesmaid dress, Sorella Vita 8746, available from MMC Bridal Agency

Sweet spaghetti straps bring a delicious delicious flirty touch to this romantic chiffon bridesmaid dress, with its ruched V-neck bodice and lightweight skirt.

Classic satin bridesmaid dress, Sorella Vita 8918, available from LA Bridal House in Carrickfergus

Sophisticated satin has never looked as Hollywood as this gorgeous style. A high wide necklace forms a classic silhouette before cinching in at the waist, creating a glamorous hourglass shape.

Cap sleeve lux chiffon dress, Dessy JP1021, available from La Bella Sposa, Dublin

This glorious full length cap sleeve lux chiffon dress nods to full on glamour with its cut-out sheer back. Delicate sleeves make the dress perfect for cool weather or covering up the shoulders – just because.

Exclusive new details from Princess Beatrice’s wedding have just been released – here’s everything you need to know from the dress, the flowers and all the royal inspo!

Princess Beatrice got married during the pandemic where she wore a stunning vintage gown borrowed from The Queen herself…

With new details finally being released to the public, we’ve rounded up everything you need to know about their intimate ceremony including dress and flower inspo.

Wedding Wardrobe

Princess Beatrice wore a vintage dress by Norman Hartnell gifted to her by none other than her grandmother, The Queen herself. The dress was modified with organza puff sleeves and is made from Peau De Soie taffeta in an ivory shade with an embellished bodice.

Her diamond fringe tiara also holds sentimental value as it was originally designed for The Queen who wore it back in 1947 for her own wedding to Prince Phillip.

The famous dress is now on display at Windsor Castle – Beatrice took to twitter saying, ‘It was an honour to wear my grandmother’s beautiful dress on my wedding day, I hope many of you are able to visit the exhibition which is still open at Winsor Castle.’

The Flowers

Princess Beatrice walked the aisle with a stunning bouquet of trailing jasmine, pastel pink and cream sweat peas, pink o’hara garden roses, royal porcelain ivory spray roses, pink wax flower and baby pink astilbe.

She also stuck to royal traditions by including springs of myrtle in the bouquet and arrangements. The bouquet was crafted by Patrice Van Helden and RVH Floral Design and matched the beautiful flower archway at the chapel.

Beatrice did veer from royal traditions in one way by adding a pop of colour in her bouquet with a pastel pink theme. Many royal brides tend to stick to a more traditional and neutral colour scheme with cream and whites colour for flower arrangements, but we’re loving the baby pink vibe which is perfect for a summer wedding!

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi held an intimate wedding on 17th July last year, inviting only close family to the celebration.

After postponing their first wedding date back in May, the two decided to keep the day small with parents and siblings and kept within the government guidelines for a Covid-safe ceremony.

Their original venue at Chapel Royal in St James’s Palace was changed to The Royal Chapel of All Saints in Royal Lodge, Windsor, where they exchanged vows with The Queen in attendance showing her approval of the marriage.

Princess Beatrice’s wedding certificate has just made history with it being the first to ever include mother’s details – before the 3rd May this year, the mothers’ details were not included in marriage records, but now up to four parents can be added to the certificate, including step-parents.

This new rule will apply to all brides and grooms in England and Wales, who for the first time can have both parents added to the wedding register. The Home Office announced the changes to the Marriage Act on 4th May, saying it will ‘correct a historic anomaly’.

Dessy, a global leader in social occasion and wedding apparel, has partnered with ‘the bridal brand for cool girls’, Lovely Bride, to launch a groundbreaking line of bridesmaids dresses designed to push the envelope on design and trends.

The collaboration comes after both brands spotted a gap in the market for bridesmaid’s dresses that were not only fresh, modern and cool, but that offered beautiful dresses in a range of different styles, colours and size options that are inclusive of a bride’s entire bridal party.

The stunning collection, which aims to make shopping for bridesmaids dresses easier and more accessible, is available now at dessy.com and will be available for try-on at Dessy authorized retailers in the USA, Canada and Europe in April.

Lanie List, founder and CEO of Lovely Bride, said of the collaboration: “Having worked with thousands of brides at Lovely Bride, we get asked all of the time ‘where can we get cool bridesmaids dresses?’

L – Lovely Style LB007 in Toffee/ R – Lovely Style LB001 in Auburn Moon

“Until recently, we often recommended ready-to-wear shops or online sites, but our brides were always challenged to find the right sizes and colors available to them when it was time for them to order. Bridesmaid companies like Dessy were ideal operationally, but no one yet had the styles that our more fashion-forward brides at Lovely were looking for. So when Dessy approached us about collaborating, it felt like the perfect opportunity.

“Dessy understands our vision for the styles our brides want, and their execution is flawless. We are thrilled to have a partnership with Dessy to give our brides something fresh and unexpected in bridesmaid dresses.”

L – Lovely Style LB008 in Dusk Blue / R – Lovely Style LB015 in Seagrass

She continued: “Going forward, we will continue to push the boundaries on design and introduce top trending details from the ready-to-wear market into the Lovely Bride collection, giving the bride the benefit of ordering bridesmaid dresses in her own wedding colors from dozens of colour options, and in sizes that are inclusive to all of her wedding party.”

Lovely Bride was founded by fashionista, Lanie List, in 2010 in a bid to make the concept of bridal wear cooler. With Lovely Bride stores across the US, including in New York, Texas and Los Angeles, Lovely Bride has flawlessly flipped the traditional bridal landscape on its head by granting access fresher, cooler bridal options – all while offering brides an unforgettable shopping experience.

L – Lovely Style LB006 in Desert Rose / R – Lovely Style LB010 in Amber Sunset

Lovely Brides has 19 shops in the continental USA and will be launching its London store in spring 2020 which will be the company’s first store outside of the US.

Renowned for creating world-class designs for social occasion and wedding apparel, Dessy’s designs are distributed across specialist shops and departments stores in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland and Australia.

The post 25 Bridal Ball Gowns Fit For A Princess appeared first on Wedding Journal.

]]>
Have you always dreamed of fairytale wedding day, then chances are you have pictured yourself in a romantic ball gown.

Often labelled as the perfect princess dress, the ball gown is a classic shape – fitted tops and full skirts made with tulle.

Almost every designer label will include a ball gown dress in their collections, for all price points. The beauty of this style of dress is that it comes in a variety of fabrics – silk, lace and satin, with a variety of necklines also.

Unlike an A-line dress, the volume of the ball gown usually comes straight out from the waist, which is what gives it the Cinderella shape.

Does This Suit My Body Type?

This is the perfect dress for an hourglass figure, it highlights a natural slim waist.
If you are more of an athletic shape, this dress will easily give you the illusion of curves, especially with a sweetheart neckline.
If you’re on the shorter side and more petite, lucky for some, you might be swamped in a princess style gown. Perhaps stay away from this look and try a trumpet or mermaid style dress.
Pear-shaped brides who are perhaps a little more self-conscious about their hips or bum, can easily disguise their insecurities until a gorgeous tulle skirt.

If you’re looking for ball gown inspiration, then look no further than these gorgeous dresses from the latest 2019 designer collections!

If you’re the type of mother who likes to have a little fun with fashion, these chic floral printed dresses are perfect for your daughter or son’s big day.

When it comes to deciding what to wear for your daughter, or son’s spring or summer wedding, there are few prints better than floral ones.

In fact, the floral print trend has become so on trend, that dark florals in heavier fabrics are proving a popular choice for autumn and winter weddings too.

READ MORE: 12 Of The Best Spring Wedding Dress

Pretty, and a classic print choice at this time of year, florals work on a variety of different silhouettes, but for spring and summer work best in breezy fabrics and lighter pastel shades or brighter colour ways.

For mothers of the bride and groom, a floral dress is not only beautifully flattering, but allows you to effortlessly co-ordinate your look with the rest of the bridal party and the overall colour theme of the wedding without looking to matchy-matchy.

READ MORE: Why Your Bridesmaids Shouldn’t Wear Pink

If you’re typically not someone who wears prints, look for a floral pattern that’s subtle and small. This way you won’t feel like you’re wearing a statement dress, but rather just adding an interesting detail to mother-of-the-bride or groom dress.

Do bear in mind when wearing florals that you don’t really need to add other jewellery or accessories as the print means that there is a lot going on before you add more detailing.

Wedding Dresses For The Curvy Bride https://www.weddingjournalonline.com/wedding-dresses-for-the-curvy-bride/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=wedding-dresses-for-the-curvy-bride Mon, 15 Apr 2019 13:42:35 +0000 https://www.weddingjournalonline.com/?p=89729 How to dress for your shape!

The post Wedding Dresses For The Curvy Bride appeared first on Wedding Journal.

]]>
Dresses for the curvier bride have stormed catwalks for the last few seasons, as more designers are recognising the growing demand of bridal looks to suit the curvier shape.

We take a look at what shapes and styles are out there this season, so you don’t have to!

Ballgown

Guaranteed to make any bride feel like royalty, this style is the perfect choice for ladies who want to highlight their chest and cleavage while minimising attention on their lower half.

Wedding-Dresses-For-Curvier-Brides
Shauna Lynette from Maggie Sottero / Style 6432+ from Stella York

We love ballgowns that featuring layers of tulle, lace and embellished details. Be careful not to over-accessorise with this look, let the dress do the talking.

Wedding-Dresses-For-Curvier-Brides
Style Number 3252 from Morilee / Macey Lynette Curve from Rebecca Ingram

The ballgown is one of the most comfortable wedding dresses you can get married in. As long as the fit is correct, trust us, you won’t want to take this dress off.

Mermaid

A sexy, seductive and stylish way to show off your body on the big day. Not only do mermaid (or fishtail) gowns feature a fitted silhouette to smooth out any troublesome areas, the careful skirt placement emphasises an hourglass shape.

Wedding-Dresses-For-Curvier-Brides
Miri Plus from Pronovias / Style 88051 from Justin Alexander

When it comes to the neckline think strapless, or for added support try cap sleeves. Closely fitted from the chest down, a mermaid dress shoots outwards at the knee for an eye-catching flare.

Wedding-Dresses-For-Curvier-Brides
Kris from Studio Levana / Style 119251W from Martin Thornburg

For plus-size brides, they are the ideal shape to create a natural curve in your body which mimics the gown.

V-Neck

Many curvier brides want to highlight their best asset on their big day – their cleavage.

Wedding-Dresses-For-Curvier-Brides
Style 88021 from Justin Alexander / Style 3251 from Morilee

Low cut wedding dresses are a sexy choice, women want to use their day as an opportunity to wear a dress they would normally not get to wear.

Wedding-Dresses-For-Curvier-Brides
Phaedra from WTOO by Watters / TC-W402 fro True Curves

If going for a deep V on its own is too daring for you , combine this with a sleeve perhaps to guarantee everything stays in place as you walk down the aisle.

Sheer

One thing we love about plus-size dresses is that many feature seductive sheer panels on the sleeves, necklines and waist of the gown.

Wedding-Dresses-For-Curvier-Brides
Style 119282AW from Martin Thornburg / TC-W400 from True Curves

This popular style is a great way to show off a hint of flesh without getting carried away.

Wedding-Dresses-For-Curvier-Brides
Benicia from Maggie Sottero / Ardelle Lynette from Rebecca Ingram

We particularly love sheer fabric when used in place of straps. Almost any strapless can have these added, this can give some extra support if you need it.

Lace

Lace remains one of the wedding world’s most popular and celebrated fabrics when it comes to wedding dresses.

Wedding-Dresses-For-Curvier-Brides
Shiran from Studio Levana / Davenport from Modeca

While many plus-size dresses abandon the favoured fabric for ruched satin or tulle, lace is still fantastic for brides wanting a more traditional day.

Wedding-Dresses-For-Curvier-Brides
Style D2433+ from Essense of Australia / Style 88049 from Justin Alexander

You can use it as a decorative feature as well by increasing its usage around the neckline.

Blush

Coloured gowns have become more and more popular in recent years, and blush is a popular choice in the WJ office.

Wedding-Dresses-For-Curvier-Brides
Grace Loves Lace / Cathrine from WTOO by Watters

This feminine colour is a romantic colour ideal for a winter or spring wedding with a pastel colour scheme.

Wedding-Dresses-For-Curvier-Brides
Garza from David’s Bridal / Style T11966 from Sophia Tolli

It lends itself well well to ballgown silhouettes, combined with modern features like feathers, dramatic ruffles or intricate sparkles.

Why Your Bridesmaids Shouldn’t Wear Pink https://www.weddingjournalonline.com/why-your-bridesmaids-shouldnt-wear-pink/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=why-your-bridesmaids-shouldnt-wear-pink Thu, 28 Mar 2019 16:43:31 +0000 https://www.weddingjournalonline.com/?p=88441 It's time to ditch pink in favour of these striking shades

The post Why Your Bridesmaids Shouldn’t Wear Pink appeared first on Wedding Journal.

]]>
Pink is probably the first colour you’ll think of for your bridesmaids, but with so much choice it’s time to step out of your blush bubble and into these striking shades.

While pink isn’t going anywhere, there are so many more colours to consider to dress your best girls in for your wedding and which will perfectly complement your dress and overall wedding theme.

Love Lavender

Not a million miles away from those soft, pretty blush hues, this soft shade of lavender tone is perfect for a bride looking for a soft and romantic colour palette. It also works well if you wish to create a mis-matched entourage and it will mix well with stronger shades of lilac and purple.

Feelin’ Blue

From dark shades of navy, to sweetpea and a pretty soft pastel, blue is certainly gaining momentum. Blue lends itself to the mix and match trend, plus lends itself to winter or summer styling.

Go Green

From fresh mint to dramatic emerald, green is gaining momentum with many bridesmaid brands adding this colour way to their collections moving into 2020. We imagine living on the Emerald Isle, that green will be a popular choice for many of you as well!

Coloured Bridesmaids Dresses
Green is all the rage and we love these dresses from Jasmine Bridesmaids

Yes It’s Yellow

Yellow can be a daunting colour choice for many, but again there is a shade to suit everyone from the darker saffron tones shown below to fresh, delicate lemon. Also yellow doesn’t have to be just for summer, mustard shades would look great for an autumnal wedding too.

Coloured Bridesmaids Dresses

Silver Sparkle

Perhaps you’d rather opt for a metallic shade? Gold is certainly not off the radar, but keep tings fresh with silver. Silver pairs well with a white wedding dress and flowers could be kept softer too. For example, shades of lilac would pair well with silver.

Metallic sparkle from Wattersmaids

White Out

Gone are the day when it’s only the bride who wears white! Chic and timeless, white dresses will suit everything from the classic wedding to a bohemian celebration. Clean, timeless and surprisingly versatile, the key to finding the right white bridesmaids dresses is to choose styles that will complement, and not outshine, your own wedding dress.

How To Jazz Up Your Wedding https://www.weddingjournalonline.com/how-to-jazz-up-your-wedding/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-to-jazz-up-your-wedding Fri, 16 Nov 2018 11:17:26 +0000 http://weddingjournalonline.com/?p=81536 Get Married 20s and 30s Style

The post How To Jazz Up Your Wedding appeared first on Wedding Journal.

]]>
On one of the most momentous and happiest days of your life, you’re bound to be walking from venue to venue with a spring in your step. If you want to turn that spring into a cool, casual swagger, then a jazz wedding is for you. Jazz rhythms tend to be irresistible even to the most wooden wedding guests – it’s exciting enough for your younger friends, and sophisticated enough for your older family, so it’s a safe bet that a jazz theme and jazz band will go down smoother than a whiskey highball.

The Garb

It goes without saying that you and your partner will be spoken for outfit-wise, but that’s not to say you can’t set a theme for your guests to have fun with.

Bands-For-Hire-01

The sharp suits and smart dress styles that emerged in the jazz era tend to be striking and colourful – a perfect way to honour your wedding and make sure it’s memorable!

You can go as far as you want with this theme, from smart suits to Zoot suits for the guys and from any amount of pearls and feathers to a full on Flapper outfit for the gals. Just ensure that everyone knows they’re to turn up in their absolute best so you can all enjoy the illusion together – you can find more inspiration here.

The Grub

New Orleans is famed for many exports: one being jazz, and another being its distinctive cuisine. As with the music that arose from the cohabitation of people of differing cultures, so too did local recipes take a little of this and a little of that from the Spanish, West African and French families that converged there. Creole and Cajun delicacies such as ‘slow and low’ barbecued meats Jambalaya, shrimp and Gumbo are known to be spicy and satisfying, and soul food such as macaroni and cheese, fried chicken and the cornbread-based ‘Hush Puppies’ will fill your guests with a warmth of a different kind. Louis Armstrong was even known to sign off his letters ‘Red beans and ricely yours’!

Alternatively, if you want to put on a more ‘Great Gatsby’ inspired spread, then the aim of the game is the fanciest finger food you can muster. Oysters, olives, salmon mousse on sliced bread, individual servings of mashed potatoes and pig sausages and tea and lemon cake are all authentic snacks of the jazz age elite.

The Drinks

As jazz was born in a dark and dingy downstairs dive, it stands to reason that it has its very own cocktail menu. Smooth, aromatic flavours were the fashion at the time, which spawned such classics as the Whiskey Highball, with its notably tall glass, the floral gin-based Aviation with its signature sky-blue hue, Franklin D Roosevelt’s unique take on the gin martini he devised to celebrate the end of Prohibition, and many more delicious yet seldom seen concoctions. Make sure you let the bar staff know what your theme is in good time, and they might just play along!

Bands-For-Hire-02

Don’t forget to include you underage guests too – for every cocktail for the fun-loving adult sat at the bar, there’s a mocktail for the disappointed adolescent who can’t get served. You could whip up a Grasshopper Ice Cream Drink, an alcohol-free Ginger Mickey, or even just a delicious Coca Cola or root beer from a vintage glass bottle.

The Decor

The decor you want for a jazz-themed wedding is most definitely Art Deco, the style that reached its creative peak during Great Gatsby author F. Scott Fitzgerald’s heyday. Characterised by its severe geometric designs and futuristic effect, Art Deco is the perfect style to honour the past while looking forward – a perfect analogy of your wedding! Backdrops, napkins, tablecloths, menus and your wedding invitations are all easy enough to adorn with the Art Deco curlicues and filigrees, but if you want to splash out a little further (which would be very much in the spirit of one of Jay Gatsby’s lavish parties), you could get hold of some fancy candelabras, cushions, cutlery and other tableware to really treat your guests like royalty.

You might like to leave assorted items from the time around, too, such as old typewriters, vintage corded telephones, double basses, or even classic cars if you can get hold of them. And how about projecting some of the best black and white movies ever committed to celluloid (such as the Jazz Singer or the comedies of Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd) onto a blank wall, to bring to life the birth of cinema?

The Music

As any jazz nut who’s hip and who’s happening will tell you, there’s no singular kind of jazz – it’s as diverse and multi-faceted as music itself. For your wedding, you’re probably going to want a more beginner-friendly breed, so steer clear of free jazz and bebop. Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Fats Waller and all the other big names will have plenty of jazz standards in their repertoires that even the most casual listener will recognise and enjoy.

Depending on your budget and the style of ceremony and reception you and your partner really want, you could opt for anything from some gentle instrumental jazz provided by a solo jazz guitarist or jazz pianist to a full-on swing band with a brass section and backing singers. You may also like to chop and change between these two extremes – background music is perfect for such moments as the prelude, the bridal procession and the wedding meal, whereas more engaging performances fare far better at the reception. This is the jazz singer’s and the jazz drummer’s time to shine!

Strike up a dialogue with your jazz band in good time, and you may well find that they can fulfill all of these needs and more. If, for example, you hire a larger band which features a piano player, the piano player may be willing to provide the instrumental music for you earlier in the evening, then have their band mates join them onstage for when you and your guests are ready to dance the Charleston.

The legendary British designer has created a stunning seventeen piece bridal collection, containing a knockout dress inspired by the Duchess of Sussex.

When interviewed by British Vogue about her bold move into bridal, Stella replied; ‘Having been a bride myself, and honored to make wedding gowns for some of my dear friends, it’s something that I feel very passionate about. I really do see it as one of the biggest privileges as as female designer to know that women come into our stores and buy pieces to wear for the most important day of their lives.’

What Can We Expect?

Staying true to Stella’s commitment to sustainability, the collection is crafted using her luxurious sustainable viscose, as well as a modern version of traditional couture fabrics including lace and chiffon.
