Dessert Stations

Dessert stations are not necessarily a new trend that you will not have heard about before, however, we predict brides will be making their dessert station much more unique and themed to them as a couple! Instead of only having a three-tiered wedding cake, couples might opt for a coffee theme with coffee cakes and espresso martinis, or a lemon cake with some lemocello shots!

Brides are definitely upping their game with making their wedding much more personal to them and we definitely think creative brides will grab this trend with both hands.

Documentary Style Photography

For couples who would rather have more candid shots of their wedding day, documentary style photography would suit you down to a tee! Documentary style photography consists of less posed portraits of the wedded couple. Examples of this would include shots of the couple in mid-conversation; laughing, gazing into each others eyes, the list goes on.

We already see a spike in these sort of images on our Instagram feed, with many influencers choosing to pose looking into the distance or slightly turned away from the camera.

Informal Wedding Menus

Instead of the traditional wedding menus, many couples are preferring to personalise their wedding meal with their own favourite meals! Whether it is a barbecue with some pulled pork and flame grilled burgers, or an Italian inspired three-course meal, the options are not becoming much more available and accepted.

We have also found that many brides are preferring to choose an exclusive venue and with that, they will have to bring their own caterers to the space for the evening. You might as well use this trend to be budget savvy and choose an informal dinner that you both will actually enjoy!

Wedding Logos

We have already seen so many of our real-life brides and grooms personalising their wedding by branding their event with different monogram moments! Whether it is on a handkerchief or wedding stationery, we believe that custom logos will only become more of a trend as we move more into 2024. Typically the logo would consist of the couples names combined.

Champagne Towers

Nothing screams class and elegance quite like a champagne tower at your wedding! We have seen a steady increase in brides wanting to look timeless and chic and this has no doubt creeped into wedding aesthetics. Why not have your champagne tower as your ‘something old’?!

Digital Guestbook

2024 brides are saying ‘yes’ to sustainability and finding different ways to bring their traditional celebration into the modern era! Digital guestbooks are more of an experience in reliving the wedding than a small written statement in a book you could rarely open. The guestbook can include stylish selfies, heartfelt videos and audio messages to really bring the wedding to life all over again. We are loving this trend and hope that it will continue for the months ahead.

Wedding Stylist

We would all love a stylist at the best of times, never mind on your wedding day! We predict that brides and grooms will really want to set their wedding looks apart from previous generations and invest on a professional stylist for the pair on the night. A wedding stylist is not necessarily an expensive option as they can help you cut the costs with their knowledge on reputable and unique brands. This way, they can also feel reassured that their bold statement looks will make a good impression on their guests rather than a bad one!

Other ways to have a unique stylist to you would include having a separate hair and makeup artist for the bride on their wedding day. A lot of brides often feel the pressure that their stylist will not be able to get round all the bridesmaids and make them look a million dollars, so having a separate stylist on the day allows them to fully relax and enjoy the day unfold.

To help your wedding dress fit like a dream, we’ve gathered which dress styles are most flattering for your body type and what trends should avoid in your search for ‘The One’…

The Hourglass

For our curvaceous hourglass brides, you have a more defined waist, wider hips and a bigger bust – this means your best suited to a figure-hugging wedding dress which shows off all your best assets.

AVOID: Your bust and hips are already perfectly balanced, so don’t add extra weight to these areas. Stay away from ball gown, empire or princess-style dresses with fuller skirts, as this may make you appear bigger.

LOOK FOR: Instead, opt for dresses that show off those gorgeous curves such as silhouette or mermaid style. A sweetheart or plunge neckline may also work better for you than a halter or high neck dress – this will keep you balanced and flatter your bustier assets.

The Pear Shape

If you have a pear body shape, you tend to have hips wider than your bust area and a defined waist. You may also be smaller in the chest area with a petite and narrow build.

AVOID: It’s best not to go for empire wedding dress styles as they may hide your dainty figure and create the illusion that you are bigger in size.

LOOK FOR: Wedding dresses that are more fitted to your shape such as a sleek silhouette or fishtail/mermaid style. Sleeves are also a good option to balance out your smaller shoulders with your wider hips.

The Triangle Shape

If your shoulders and upper body are proportionally bigger than your lower body, you probably have a triangle shape. You may have broad shoulders with a slimmer waist and smaller hips, giving you a column-like shape.

AVOID: Stay clear from strapless, off-the-shoulder or halter neck dresses as this can highlight your wider shoulders and may have you looking out of proportion.

LOOK FOR: Opt for a symmetrical or v-neck style as this works perfectly with the inverted triangle shape. Fuller straps and sleeves are also flatter and make your shoulders look more subtle. Dresses with more detail or pattern can help you appear broader and more balanced.

The Oval Shape

The oval body shape (AKA apple shape) is seen on brides with a larger bust, narrow hips and a fuller torso. You have a more rounded shape midsection and tend to have slender legs and arms.

AVOID: Halter or high neck gowns run the risk of drowning you out in the chest area and give your other areas little definition. Stay clear of styles that draw attention to your waist or pleat dresses which are less flattering for your figure.

LOOK FOR: Empire or A-line dresses with flared skirts will give the illusion of a curvier shape. Lower necklines and detail on the chest area will also draw the eye upwards and away from the fuller midsection area of your body.

The Rectangle Shape

Brides with a rectangle body type (AKA banana shape) have a straight figure with the shoulders, waist and hips within the same width. You may also be tall, have little waist definition and a smaller bust.

AVOID: Figure hugging dresses such as mermaid, fishtail or silhouette as this will highlight your straight shape and give less definition. Also, high necklines may make you appear longer and less balanced in shape.

LOOK FOR: A-line, empire and ball gowns are your go-tos – the fuller bottom will help bring more definition to your shape and create the illusion of a curvier figure.

Like so many couples, Andy and Evie had to postpone their big day due to the pandemic. A year ago they tied the knot in an intimate ceremony with just friends and family, and recently the couple got to fulfill their dreams of a lavish big day.

Their chic affair at Belfast’s Culloden Estate & Spa boasted two dresses and simply elegant floral décor. Keep reading to find out how they planned their special day, despite facing setbacks along the way.

HOW THEY MET

Andy and Evie met back in 2014 at youth summer camp and began dating two years later after reconnecting. For the first two years, Andy was studying at Queen’s University Belfast and the couple lived close by. However, when Andy graduated he decided to move just outside of London for work, and the couple embarked on a 2 year long distance relationship. The saying ‘distance makes the heart grow fonder’ was definitely the case for them, as after only 1 year of Andy being away they got engaged!

THE PROPOSAL

Easter weekend of 2019, Andy came home for a visit, and he organised a ‘date-day’ to spend time with Evie. They headed down to Enniskillen and as the couple sailed to the middle of the lough enjoying the sunshine, Andy suddenly got down on one knee and proposed. Of course Evie said ‘YES!’ and Andy rushed to get the ring on her finger as he was terrified of dropping it overboard!

The couple still look back on that special weekend with the fondest of memories – everyone was thrilled for them!

PLANNING TWO WEDDINGS

Evie had the task of planning, not one, but two weddings due to the pandemic – it was an unexpected surprise! The couple had postponed their big wedding day and opted to go for a smaller ceremony on their original wedding date. They celebrated the union with close family at Lady Jane Tower followed by a meal at Robinson Suite – with the backdrop of Belfast Lough twinkling in the sunshine. Andy called in a favour from a friend and the beautiful day was captured by Tiffany Gage Photography.

Fast-forward one year and the big day finally rolled around for the couple. “This year, we had a special blessing ceremony at Knock Presbyterian Church Belfast, where we were able to celebrate the marriage commitment Andy and I had made one year previous.”  Evie says. After the pandemic had separated people for so long, the couple enjoyed being able to bring everyone back together for a celebration.

THE VENUE

Culloden Estate and Spa holds a special place in Evie’s heart, “this beautiful hotel has always been extra special to my family and I, as 30 years previous my parents had their wedding reception in the Stuart Suite.”

This venue was top on the couples lists and they were delighted to secure it! Along with the Events Team, Andy and Evie appreciated the staff for making their day extra festive.

1. You can NEVER start planning to early!

Let’s start with the most important (and probably obvious) piece of advice – give yourself plenty of time for wedding planning! Creating your dream day can be stressful and pressure-filled and there’s no doubt you’ll have a lot on your to-do list which will most likely grow as you start your planning journey. To eliminate the stress of not getting those vendors you want or last minute tasks taking over, start your planning earlier than you think!

2. Allow Others To Help You

Instead of trying to plan everything yourself which isn’t very sustainable and will soon have you burnt out, welcome help from others when they offer it! A great tip is delegating tasks to those who want to help you – your partner may be great with finances so making a budget plan could be perfect for him, or your mother may be great at ringing up your suppliers and asking your needed questions while you focus on other tasks. This should relieve a lot of pressure for the bride!

Additionally, most brides want to look and feel their best on their big day so don’t be afraid to reach out to the professionals who can help you achieve your skin, beauty, fitness and health goals! From dermatologists to personal trainers, dentists and aestheticians – these are the experts you can trust.

3. Focus On The Bigger Picture

Although your wedding day is probably one of the biggest and most important days of your life, you have to remind yourself that it is only one day. If you find your self starting to overanalyse and stress every small detail, take a breather – at the end of the day, you won’t really remember what shade the cutlery was, but you WILL remember the love you felt and memories you made on the day. On your wedding to-do list, put the most important tasks at the top (the ones that will really make a difference) to help you prioritise and focus your energy on what really matters.

4. Sleep Is SO Important!

It’s easy to skimp on sleep when wedding planning as this can be a super busy times and getting a full seven to eight hours a night doesn’t seem like a priority – but it should be! Getting enough sleep is essential for your physical and mental wellbeing. If you’re feeling drained, negative and lethargic during planning, a big factor could be a lack of sleep. Prevent the wedding planning burn out by scheduling a bedtime (yes, we said that!) at least for most nights leading up to the day. Put down the to-do list at a reasonable time, create a relaxing bedtime routine to wind down and make your beauty sleep a priority.

5. Stay Hydrated

This tip may seem a little obvious but when you’re juggling multiple wedding planning tasks, it’s easy to forget to look after yourself which includes drinking plenty of water! Staying hydrated will keep your energy levels up in the months leading up to your day, plus it will also help your skin look its best and is just as important in your skincare routine as any moisturiser or serum. If you find it a struggle to drink water when busy, carry around a large water bottle with you in the car, take it to vendor meetings or snack on fruits which are also high in water. If possible aim for 6-8 glasses per day (around 1.2 – 1.5 litres).

6. Make Time For YOU

If you feel yourself getting totally overwhelmed with wedding planning (which can happen at anytime, even when you are looking after yourself!), there are other options you can try to destress and are scientifically proven to help. Meditation and yoga are amazing for calming the body and mind, and even if you think they won’t make much of a difference, trust us it does! This will lower your heart rate, release built up tension and increase serotonin production. Even if it’s only a five or ten minute meditation or yin yoga session from Youtube here and there, your body and mind will thank you for it!

7. Keep Up The Exercise

Last but not least, don’t skimp on exercise. Or if you’re not that into exercising, now is a great time to create a workout routine. It’s easy to feel like you don’t have time for exercising during wedding planning or your too tired to fit it in, but we promise that if you make the time you will feel better for it. Not only can it help you achieve your health and fitness goals, but it’s a great way of reducing your stress levels and improving your mood – which you will most likely need during your wedding planning journey!
